OVERVIEW
The Staff Accountant is a key member of the Client Accounting & Advisory Services engagement team. This individual performs most engagements with supervision from a Senior Accountant or Supervisor. The Staff Accountant is tasked with providing outstanding client service to our Small Business clients.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Staff Accountants’ duties include, but are not limited to :
Participating in review and compilation engagements from planning through issuance
Coordinating with clients to obtain required accounting materials
Assisting in the preparation of financial statements and notes to the financial statements
Preparing projects / engagements on time and within budget
Performing book closing work and general ledger reconciliations
Performing bank and account reconciliations
Preparing quarterly and annual payroll tax returns
Preparing journal entries
Preparing month-end financial statements
Preparing general correspondence and reports
Applying strong accounting and bookkeeping skills, including knowledge of book vs. tax, depreciation, accrual, pre-paid, and revenue recognition
Demonstrating ability to apply basic tax knowledge and basic payroll / payroll tax knowledge
Developing and maintaining excellent client relationships on behalf of the Firm
Maintaining and continually developing working knowledge of compilations and reviews
Proficiently using Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, Engagement, FAS, QuickBooks and 1099 ETC and other software, as applicable
Displaying professionalism - by acting with confidence and ease - in the presence of staff and support staff representatives
Returning phone calls, emails and checks voice mail on a regular basis
Seeking projects when available
Adhering to the firm’s mission and core values
REQUIRED EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required
- Proficient knowledge of Excel and tax software
- Ability to learn a variety of accounting software programs
- Ability to work independently, multi-task in a dynamic environment, set priorities and be accountable
- Ability to prepare a complete and accurate set of financial statements, including balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement, with minimal supervision.
- Effectively applies accounting principles and procedures to overall engagement
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills are required
- Requires good decision making and verbal and written communication skills
- This position requires overtime during our busiest seasons and when client needs dictate. While every effort is made to manage and minimize overtime, candidates must be able to work evenings and weekends when necessary.
