Position Summary:
Maitre D' is pivotal in delivering exceptional dining experiences for Members and their guests. Ultimately responsible for overseeing the dining room, managing reservations, ensuring smooth service flow, and maintaining a welcoming and professional atmosphere. Additionally, serves as the main point of contact between Members, their guests, team members, and management. This role requires exceptional communication, organizational, and leadership skills to guarantee a memorable dining experiences.
Essential Responsibilities:

- Greet guests upon arrival, offering a warm welcome to create a memorable first impression.
- Determine the best seating arrangement based on guests' preferences and needs, ensuring comfort and privacy.
- Handle guest inquiries and special requests with a high level of professionalism and attention to detail. Ensure that Dining Spaces are set-up and service delivery is carried out according to member expectations and banquet event order. Conduct pre-function meetings with scheduled staff and review all information pertinent to the service and set-up of groups. Inspect scheduled function areas/rooms, table set-ups, bar set-ups, buffet tables, receptions and coffee breaks for cleanliness, attractiveness and proper layout.
- Work in conjunction with the Dining Operations Manager and Director of Dining Operations to ensure special events, dining operations and overall clubhouse success.
- Appropriately manage reservations, ensuring that all are accurately recorded and confirmed.
- Coordinate with the culinary and front-of-the-house food and beverage teams to ensure timely table availability, optimizing seating arrangements for maximum efficiency.
- Effectively manage waitlists, providing updates and ensuring smooth transitions between reservations.
- Assist in overseeing and supervising servers, bussers, hosts, and food runners including assigning sections, monitoring performance and communicating identified challenges to the management team, and ensuring adherence to service standards.
- Train and mentor team members, ensuring they understand service expectations and Club-specific policies.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, offering guidance and support as needed.
- Ensure all tables are properly set and maintained according to the club's standards, checking for cleanliness and proper placement of dining items.
- Coordinate with the culinary team to accommodate special requests, dietary restrictions, or allergies.
- Address Member and/or guest concerns or issues promptly, ensuring a satisfactory resolution.
- Maintain an inviting, comfortable environment that aligns with the Club’s standards and the members’ expectations.
- Collaborate with the culinary and management for parties, private events, and special occasions, ensuring seamless coordination and high-quality service.
- Assist with the creation and execution of customized menus for special events, ensuring all requests are met.
- Serve as the primary communication link between Members, guests, culinary team members, servers, bussers, food runners, and management to ensure smooth service and Member satisfaction.
- Relay any dietary restrictions, preferences, or Member and guest feedback to relevant departments.
- Ensure compliance with health and sanitation guidelines by regularly inspecting the dining area to ensure adherence to cleanliness and hygiene standards.
- Maintain an in-depth understanding of the Club's menu offerings, including ingredients, preparation methods, and potential allergens
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Maitre D' or in a similar front-of-house position, preferably in a fine dining or private club setting.
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills with the ability to connect with a diverse guest.
- Strong leadership skills with a keen focus on training, development, and team cohesion.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills to manage reservations, guest requests, and the overall dining experience.
- Ability to multitask and problem-solve in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of dining etiquette and elevated service standards.
- Must be flexible with working hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, based on Club events and peak dining times.
- Computer skills (Excel and NorthStar familiarity a plus).
- Knowledge of wine and beverage advantageous.
Education & Work Experience Requirements:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
- 1 year related experience.
