Job Summary
Bode Technology, the leading provider of forensic DNA services, is seeking an energetic and experienced Forensic DNA Analyst to join Bode’s laboratory operations. The Forensic Mitochondrial DNA Analyst will perform DNA analysis on forensic evidence, reference samples and human remains as part of our growing casework team. Must have at least one year of prior experience as a qualified and proficient Mitochondrial DNA Analyst in an accredited laboratory. The responsibilities of the Forensic Mitochondrial DNA Analyst include performing DNA analysis on casework evidence, reference samples and human remains samples to include DNA extraction, quantification, PCR and sequencing (Sanger sequencing and/or massively parallel sequencing). The analyst will analyze and interpret results and document all results and conclusions in a forensic report. Must maintain external proficiency and testify in court when needed.
Responsibilities
- Successfully complete Bode’s internal Mitochondrial DNA Analyst training program to include written and verbal competency exam and moot court
- Process casework evidence, human remains and/or reference samples in the laboratory to include sampling, DNA extraction, quantification, amplification, capillary electrophoresis/sequencing using Sanger sequencing and/or massively parallel sequencing
- Analyze and interpret DNA results using established guidelines
- Perform statistical analyses
- Document and report analysis results and/or conclusions
- Effectively troubleshoot results and re-test samples as needed
- Testify in court to the results of DNA analysis
- Meet or exceed quality and productivity expectations
- Follow all SOPs and document testing in LIMS and other worksheets
- Maintain proficiency in DNA analysis through bi-annual external proficiency tests
- Meet or exceed continuing education requirements
- Perform technical and administrative case reviews as needed
- May assist with training of technologists or other DNA Analysts
- Assist with validation work as needed
- Periodic travel for continuing education or court testimony
Position Requirements
§ BA/BS degree in Biology, Forensics or other natural science; MS degree is preferred
- 1 year of experience as a qualified Mitochondrial DNA analyst in an accredited laboratory is required, 2 years preferred
- Familiarity with accreditation standards
- Experience with NGS/MPS a plus
- Excellent laboratory skills
- Ability to concentrate and produce results with 100% accuracy
- Superior attention to detail
- Excellent demonstrated project management skills and ability to consistently meet or exceed deadlines
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task required
- Works in and around sterile laboratory(s), laboratory equipment, chemicals/reagents
- Handles items with blood and other body fluids, exposure to blood-borne pathogens
- Works directly with evidence which may be sensitive in nature or may represent violent, criminal activity
- Periodic travel for continuing education or court testimony
