The Bar Manager (also known as “Zone Manager, Bar”) oversees all aspects of bar operations, including staff leadership, scheduling, inventory management, purchasing, training, compliance, safety, and vendor relations. The role ensures high-quality guest experiences, adherence to brand standards, and operational efficiency while managing budgets and fostering team development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Staff Management

- Supervise, mentor, and train bartenders, barbacks, and other beverage staff to maintain a high-performance team.
- Foster a positive work environment, emphasizing teamwork, professional growth, and exceptional service.
- Develop and manage weekly schedules to balance operational needs and labor cost efficiency.
- Oversee the assignment and supervision of opening and closing duties to ensure operational readiness and cleanliness.
- Conduct daily pre-shift meetings to discuss goals, updates, and operational focus areas.
- Recognize exceptional performance while addressing disciplinary actions constructively to encourage improvement.
- Act as the Leader on Duty (“LOD”) as scheduled, managing staff on shift throughout the venue to lead daily service and operations.
- Maintain consistency and familiarity with people management tools including scheduling, performance, and time management mechanisms.
Purchasing & Inventory Management
- Maintain accurate inventory records for alcohol, mixers, glassware, and other bar essentials.
- Conduct regular stock counts and audits to prevent shortages and minimize waste.
- Maintain and update inventory control systems to ensure efficient stock management, ensuring data integrity and consistency with entries.
- Manage all purchasing for the bar, ensuring quality products are sourced at competitive prices.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with vendors, coordinating brand directives for supplier alignment.
- Negotiate contracts, pricing, and delivery terms to optimize purchasing efficiency.
- Track purchasing activities to adhere to budgetary goals and financial targets.
Training & Quality Assurance
- Enforce drink preparation and presentation SOPs to meet brand quality standards.
- Monitor bar cleanliness and organization to comply with health and safety regulations.
- Conduct regular checks to ensure all equipment is functioning properly and maintained.
- Plan and execute training sessions to enhance technical skills, product knowledge, and service techniques.
- Coach and support staff, promoting a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
Hospitality & Service Standards
- Ensure exceptional customer service is delivered consistently by all bar staff, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for guests.
- Set the standard for warm and genuine hospitality, encouraging staff to build connections with guests and create memorable experiences.
- Act as the leader of the guest experience while onsite, maintaining visibility and approachability to address guest needs and ensure satisfaction.
- During operational hours, prioritize guest service as the bar’s central focus, ensuring all staff actively engage with guests in a professional, friendly, and accommodating manner.
- Oversee staff interactions with guests, providing real-time coaching and support to uphold high service standards.
- Monitor the bar area to anticipate guest needs, resolving potential issues proactively and promptly.
- Maintain and enforce service protocols, ensuring consistency in the quality of the guest experience.
- Collaborate with other managers and staff to maintain smooth service flow, particularly during peak times.
Compliance and Safety:

- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures.
- Oversee food safety practices, including proper storage, handling, and preparation of food items.
- Adhere to all alcohol service laws and regulations, ensuring responsible service practices.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of bar management or leadership and (5) years of bartending experience required.
- Education in business management, hospitality and/or mixology a plus.
- Professional bar training experience a plus, but not required.
Skills:
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in inventory and purchasing systems.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and alcohol service regulations.
- Ability to train and develop staff effectively.
- Financial acumen for budget adherence and cost control.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This position requires onsite presence during all business operational hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to ensure consistent leadership and oversight of bar operations.
- Flexibility in scheduling is essential; candidates must maintain full availability to work across all shifts as needed to meet business demands and operational needs.
- The ability to adapt to a fluid schedule, including last-minute changes, is required to address unforeseen staffing or operational challenges.
- Changes to scheduling availability that do not align with the role's requirements may result in reassessment of the candidate's eligibility to maintain the position.
- Physical requirements include the ability to stand for extended periods, navigate a fast-paced work environment, lift and carry up to 50 lbs., and perform repetitive motions such as pouring, shaking, and mixing drinks.
- This role involves frequent interaction with guests, staff, and vendors, often in a loud and busy environment, requiring excellent communication and multitasking abilities.
