The position will require supervising food service personnel and managing food service operations. Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of food service, including planning, staffing, menu creation, food preparation, and service delivery to ensure high-quality standards.
- Supervise and lead food service personnel, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management. Foster a positive and efficient team environment.
- Develop and manage the food service budget, including controlling costs for food, supplies, and labor while maximizing efficiency and minimizing waste.
- Ensure the food service facilities are properly set up, outfitted, and maintained in accordance with safety, cleanliness, and operational standards.
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, including maintaining a valid Food Service Handling Certificate. Oversee sanitation and hygiene practices in accordance with health and safety guidelines.
- Collaborate with other departments and team members to develop and plan menus that meet the dietary needs and preferences of the population served while remaining within budget constraints.
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction by addressing feedback and complaints promptly and making adjustments as necessary.
- Oversee the ordering, receipt, storage, and use of food and kitchen supplies, ensuring proper inventory control and cost management.
- Maintain clear and effective communication with staff, management, and clients regarding daily operations, special dietary needs, and changes in services. Prepare reports, correspondence, and other necessary documentation.
Required Background and Experience:
- At least 5 years of experience (within the last 10 years) supervising personnel and working in the food services profession.
- Proven experience in managing, planning, setting up, outfitting, and budgeting food service operations.
- Valid Food Service Handling Certificate, which must remain current throughout the duration of the contract.
- Strong leadership and staff management abilities, with a focus on team development and operational efficiency.
- Proficiency in budgeting, financial oversight, and cost control within food services.
- In-depth knowledge of food safety standards, sanitation practices, and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, with the ability to effectively communicate with staff, clients, and management.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced work environment and manage day-to-day operations seamlessly.
- Additional certifications in food safety or hospitality management are a plus.
- Experience working in large-scale food service operations or institutional food service settings.
- Sitting/Standing: Ability to stand, walk, and move around the kitchen and dining area for extended periods. Sitting occasionally during breaks only or during administrative task or meetings otherwise you are active physically.
- Walking: Ability to stand, walk, and move around the kitchen and dining area for extended periods.
- Stooping/Kneeling/Crouching/Crawling: This role may require occasional stooping, kneeling, to pick up items needed for related to food, inventory or shelving, etc.
- Using Hands/Fingers: This role constantly operates technological office equipment such as laptop, mouse, keyboard, computer monitors, telephones, and scanners, copiers, and fax machines. This role will require the use of hands and fingers to prepare and operate in a fully functional kitchen and food distribution work area.
- Talking/Hearing: This role requires constant communication with others in the organization to exchange information, review information, and make decisions about information.
- Seeing: This role requires the ability to see, view, and distinguish all aspects of food quality and preparation to ensure quality.
- Carrying/Lifting: This role requires the ability to lift up to 30lbs to transport food related inventory or boxes from one area to another or unload food ordered as needed.
