The Associate Director, Automation and Integration is responsible for Leading a Team of Automation, Instrumentation and Control Engineers supporting manufacturing and utilities computerized/automated equipment and systems. The support provided by the Team includes daily manufacturing operations, compliance, systems administration, continuous improvement, integration of new technologies/systems, reliability initiatives, capital projects and new products introduction.

The Associate Director, Automation and Integration is responsible for Leading a Team of Automation, Instrumentation and Control Engineers supporting manufacturing and utilities computerized/automated equipment and systems. Duties & Responsibilities
Technical:
- Provides advanced technical expertise and strategic guidance to the assigned team to ensure adequate daily support to automation (process, utilities, factory, facility, and laboratory), vertical integration, OT platform/IT interface. Ensures effective maintenance and availability of automation equipment and control system modifications adhering to Good Engineering practices, Bio-Pharmaceutical Good Manufacturing Practices, and Change Control standards, procedures, and policies
- Contributes to developing improved and robust automated system strategies including instrumentation, controls and automation for process, utilities, factory, facility, and laboratory
- Plans the maintenance and life cycle management activities for the automated systems
- Investigates and analyzes customer opportunities for improvement
- Designs, recommends, and implements improvements
- Provides strategy definition and approval for change request, design documentation, testing and commissioning plans
- Advises and approves strategy for deviations resolution and CAPAs implementation
- Performs advanced automation system design that supports data integrity, stability, and interface between different systems
- Ensures maintenance of automation system and documentation, including automation specification documents and SOPs, in a compliant state
- Ensures Automation resources supports internal, external and customer's audits and resolution of any observation by auditors
- Interfaces with Manufacturing, Engineering, IT, QA, MSAT/PTS and Contract Engineering/Vendor firms to develop and agree upon Scopes, User Requirements and Functional Requirements Specifications, Support Contracts, etc
- Supports definition and implementation of best practice of automation technical standards and procedures
- Participates in project and initiatives multi-site reviews
- Supports Capital Projects by developing, planning, and implementing automation-based projects and solutions in collaboration with cross-functional teams, including determination and delivery on scope, schedule, cost, and quality to ensure the sustained production, successful product launches and customer satisfaction. These projects may be new systems and/or retrofit of existing
- Provides leadership and/or technical support to projects in support of the BI Capital Plan
- Supervises automation consultants, contractors providing services on the supported areas/projects
- Supports the commissioning and qualification of automation systems
- Leads a team of resources, internal and contracted, responsible for performing automation tasks such as administration of automated systems, configuration, modification and qualification of the systems, continuous improvement, and compliance support on automation related topics
- Assigns and manages resources and monitors the performance of assigned responsibilities
- Ensures staff is properly trained to be able to perform their jobs and are operating in a safe manner
- Manages and leads full-time employees assigned
- Spends the necessary time to develop skilled engineers and to enable career growth opportunities for employees both in and outside of the group
- Owns people leadership responsibilities such as talent and performance management
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college. Preferably with a focus in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or Automation
- Minimum ten (10) years of relevant work experience in the Instrumentation, Controls, Automation, Business Systems Integration fields.
- Experience in an FDA regulated manufacturing environment
- Minimum of six (6) years strategic technical leadership experience including successfully leading people and multiple projects in a matrix environment
- Minimum two (2) years of tactical people management experience preferred
- Working knowledge of automation systems such as Delta V, Siemens, Allen-Bradley, BMS, process equipment, instrumentation, and/or computerized systems typically applied to Bio-pharmaceutical manufacturing processes
- Detail-oriented, with excellent written and verbal technical and nontechnical communication and presentation skills
- Ability to build relationships internally and externally.
- Strong analytical skills to identify potential improvement opportunities, and drive opportunities to realization
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary project groups and deal with customers and suppliers
- Good understanding of legal and regulatory aspects within Bio-pharmaceutical business and EHS
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction
- Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)
- Must be 18 years of age or older
