What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Design Engineer position at Boerger LLC?
Boerger LLC, an international leader in Rotary Lobe Pumps, Macerating Equipment, and Separation Technology located in Chanhassen, MN, has an immediate opening for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer. This position will be primarily responsible for design and manufacturing engineering of structural frame and piping components for the Boerger portfolio of equipment.
Duties:
- Design of pump/macerator base frames and packaged skids containing multiple pieces of equipment
- Design of single piece pipe connections and piping systems for packaged skids
- Prepare detailed 2D prints for component manufacture
- Part creation of manufactured components within ERP software, including material selection, usage calculations, BOM creation, and routing selection/creation
- Selection of purchased components including pipe fittings, valves, sealing components, and fasteners
- Interact with vendors to source manufacturing and finishing services
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field
- 5 years experience in a design engineering role applying engineering knowledge, manufacturing experience, stress and force analysis (hand calculation and FEA), component sizing and selection, and material selection
- Exceptional proven experience with design for manufacturing and prevention of manufacturing process issues related to component design for processes including but not limited to plate/sheet metal brake forming, band and cold sawing, plasma/laser/oxyfuel/waterjet cutting, MIG/TIG welding, machining, and metal finishing
- Proficiency in solid modeling CAD software Solidworks, Inventor, Creo, Solid Edge etc.
- Solid understanding of drafting standards, GD&T, and print reading
- Basic understanding of PDM software (revision management, check-in/check-out)
- Strong mechanical aptitude with shop floor experience in a manufacturing environment
- Strong organizational skills and detail oriented
- Comfortable with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Exposure to ERP systems preferred
