Position Overview:
The Strategic Sourcing & Procurement Lead will play a critical role in managing both the sourcing and purchasing of direct materials essential to Boerger LLC’s production needs. This includes identifying, evaluating, and negotiating with suppliers to secure key materials such as electrical motors, gearing, automation components, piping, and other electrical/mechanical components. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in sourcing strategies, supplier relationship management, and technical specification reviews. In this role, you will also ensure alignment between supplier capabilities and Boerger’s operational requirements, focusing on cost-effectiveness, quality, and supply chain optimization.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Sourcing
- Develop and implement sourcing strategies to identify and qualify reliable suppliers for direct materials.
- Conduct thorough market research to assess supplier capabilities, pricing trends, and industry developments.
- Build a diverse supplier base to mitigate risk, enhance competition, and foster innovation.
Job-Specific Purchasing
- Oversee the procurement of critical components such as electrical motors, gearing, automation products, and piping required for production.
- Ensure materials meet project specifications, quality standards, and delivery schedules.
Supplier Relationship Management
- Leverage established supplier networks and actively build new relationships to ensure Boerger has access to the best available resources.
- Negotiate terms, pricing, and long-term contracts to achieve cost savings and ensure consistent supply.
Project Specification Review
- Collaborate with engineering and project teams to analyze specifications, ensuring materials align with technical and quality requirements.
- Proactively address any specification-related challenges with suppliers.
Cost Management & Optimization
- Identify opportunities to reduce total cost of ownership through strategic sourcing and supplier negotiations.
- Monitor budgets and ensure procurement activities align with financial goals.
Vendor Performance Monitoring
- Establish performance metrics for suppliers and conduct regular evaluations to ensure quality, reliability, and compliance.
- Work with underperforming suppliers to implement corrective action plans.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Act as a sourcing and procurement subject matter expert, providing guidance to internal teams on supplier selection and cost management.
- Partner with engineering, operations, and project management to support production goals and resolve any material-related issues.
Risk Mitigation
- Develop contingency plans to address potential supply chain disruptions, including alternative sourcing strategies.
- Stay informed about geopolitical, environmental, and economic factors impacting material availability and pricing.
Qualifications:
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in sourcing, purchasing, or sales of electrical motors, gearing, automation components, piping, or related electrical/mechanical parts.
- Proven success in strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, and cost-saving initiatives.
Former Sales Experience
- Preferred experience in distribution outside or inside sales, particularly acting as a liaison between multiple suppliers and customers to meet specific material requirements.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical components, sourcing strategies, and supplier management best practices.
- Advanced negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in procurement software, ERP systems, and data analysis tools such as Microsoft Excel.
Knowledge
- In-depth understanding of global supply chain trends and risk mitigation strategies.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications and apply sourcing expertise to meet production needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong network of established suppliers in the electrical, mechanical, automation, and piping industries.
- Familiarity with project-based purchasing and total cost of ownership analysis.
- Professional certifications such as APICS, CPSM, or CIPS.
