Position Summary
The Assistant Athletic Director for Aquatics oversees all operations and programming at the BISD Aquatics Learning Center. This leadership role is responsible for developing and implementing a wide range of aquatic programs, enforcing rigorous safety standards, and ensuring the facility remains clean, functional, and welcoming. The Assistant Athletic Director is committed to fostering a safe, efficient, and enjoyable environment for all users – from recreational swimmers to competitive athletes – while supporting the center's mission of excellence in aquatic education and performance.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in physical education or related field from an accredited college or university- Valid Texas teacher’s certification
- Holds current certifications in Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR, and AED usage
- Previous experience in aquatics programming or management, including supervisory roles
- 3 years of progressive leadership experience to include:
o Planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and managing employees/teams
o Coaching, mentoring, developing, and performance managing employees/teams
- Satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in physical education or related field from an accredited college or university
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong leadership, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Understanding of pool systems (filtration, chlorination, water chemistry), maintenance protocols, and scheduling.
- Expertise in designing and managing swim lessons, aquatic fitness classes, lifeguard training, and competitive swim programs.
- Deep knowledge of lifeguarding practices, emergency response procedures, and regulatory compliance (e.g., local health codes, OSHA).
Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities
Program Development and Management
- Design, implement, and evaluate a diverse range of aquatic programs that align with the needs and interests of participants.
- Create and manage comprehensive schedules for classes, swim lessons, and special events to ensure efficient facility use.
- Develop and lead staff training programs focused on aquatic safety, customer service excellence, and emergency response protocols.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with participants, parents, and staff regarding program schedules, expectations, and safety guidelines.
- Strategically promote aquatic offerings to increase community engagement, attract new participants, and enhance member retention.
- Build and sustain partnerships with schools, community groups, and local businesses to expand program opportunities and community outreach.
- Oversee the BISD Aquatics Program budget, balancing cost-efficiency with the delivery of high-quality services and programs.
- Serve as head coach for the Champion High School swim and water polo teams.
Facility Management, Safety, and Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with safety regulations, including proper water chemistry, routine equipment maintenance, and proactive risk management practices.
- Conduct regular safety drills and facility inspections, ensuring all emergency and safety equipment is fully operational and easily accessible.
- Monitor and maintain water quality to meet or exceed local and state health code standards.
- Oversee the cleanliness, sanitation, and safety of all aquatic areas, including the pool deck, locker rooms, and adjacent facilities.
- Collaborate with the Athletic Department to promptly address issues related to pool systems such as heating, filtration, circulation, and mechanical equipment.

Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise and evaluate the performance of professional and support staff assigned to the BISD Aquatics Learning Center.
Working Conditions
- Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including personal computer and peripherals
- Posture: Prolonged standing; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
- Motion: Repetitive motions, including conducting water safety drills
