What are the responsibilities and job description for the Temporary Sewing Specialist position at BoF Careers?
As a temporary sewing specialist, you will support students with the overall creation of garments. You will assist with fabric preparation, pattern layout and marking, and garment assembly and pressing. You will ensure garment specifications are viable and consistent with the fit aesthetic based on design intents, measuring samples to check the construction and execution of student garments. Likewise, you will evaluate sample prototypes and finished products to ensure they are defect-free. As required, you will help students implement design changes and contingency plans. You will also ensure all fashion student products meet SCAD’s high-quality standards.
In this role, you will demonstrate industrial sewing, hand sewing, fine finishing, and fabric manipulation techniques. You will maintain a professional environment in specialized fashion studio areas and communicate effectively with students on all intended fit corrections and technical information. You will establish professional working relationships with fashion students and department faculty/staff, assist with live-model fittings to apply adjustments, and establish quality control standards for the technical team and office procedures.
The successful candidate will have a professional interest in the clothing industry, a commitment to a strong work ethic, and the ability to work well in a fast-paced environment. The candidate will have exemplary communication and sewing skills and acute attention to detail. They can identify apparel flaws quickly and effectively adjust designs on the spot. Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.

Minimum Qualifications:
- At least two years of related experience
- Experience operating industrial and specialty sewing machines
- Experience operating industrial sergers
- Bachelor’s degree in fashion design or a closely related field
- At least five years of industry experience within technical design and apparel manufacturing
- Knowledge and skill in commercial fit and pattern standards, corrections, grading, construction methods
