Prominent South Florida Family Law Firm is seeking a Legal Assistant/Paralegal to support their New York-based attorney group. Must be able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-intensive, high-volume caseload environment with multiple attorneys located in multiple offices. Must be detail-oriented, organized, self-sufficient, and independent. Must be a team player.
Hybrid schedule; however, flexibility for five days per week in-person office coverage is required. Duties include communication with clients, discovery compliance, discovery review, deposition/hearing/trial preparation, drafting of motions and responses, calendaring, e-filing, and scheduling.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal and administrative support to attorneys and enhance office efficiency.
- Assist with communication to clients, opposing counsel, judicial assistants, etc.
- Keep clients and attorneys moving forward with discovery deadlines.
- Identify, organize, and label discovery documents for production.
- Prepare discovery responses, including financial affidavits.
- Review and chart missing documents, draft motions to compel and discover subpoenas.
- Coordinate depositions and obtain transcripts.
- Review divisional instructions and prepare scheduled matters for hearing within the timeline/instructions of the assigned judge.
- Assist attorneys with trial preparation.
- Monitor and manage calendar events and deadlines for multiple attorneys.
- Save emails, and client/court documents to the client file.
- Maintain all initial filings of legal records, briefs, and correspondence for assigned cases.
- Case preparations, office meetings, and other projects.
Skills
- 3-5 years’ experience as a Legal Assistant (Family Law or other Litigation experience preferred).
- Familiarity with legal procedures, protocols, deadlines, and court requirements.
- Ability to work for multiple attorneys in a fast-paced, deadline-intensive, high-volume caseload environment.
- Detail oriented and organized, with the ability to focus despite interruptions.
- Working knowledge of case management and billing software.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to adapt to different personalities and work styles.
