We are seeking an experienced Meat Cutter responsible for consistently maintaining the desired level of production of fresh meats and seafood. Ensuring that product quality, freshness, and selection meet our merchandising expectations. They possess effective communication skills and work to build relationships with customers, coworkers and suppliers.

Responsibilities And Duties

  • Seeks opportunities to greet and engage with customers.
  • Maintains an atmosphere of customer awareness and an emphasis on fast, friendly, courteous customer service. Engages with and interacts with customers for suggestive selling.
  • Maintains respectful communication with all co-workers.
  • Maintains proper rotation of the block, Grab & Go and coolers.
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers and follow written instructions.
  • Produces house made recipes including several different burger recipes with beef, chicken, and salmon in addition to house-made sausage, hot wings, carne asada and smoked meat.
  • Cut all roasts, steaks, stew meats, poultry items and seafood items to fill the meat and seafood cases as well as the Grab & Go case.
  • Cut, grind, and wrap fresh meat products according to specific pars, ensuring the quality and freshness standards for our Grab & Go case are met.
  • Stocks and rotates products in our retail coolers and freezers.
  • Ensures trim specifications are followed to produce a superior product. Keeps trim to a minimum.
  • Ensures proper temperatures are maintained in all phases of meat preparation, display, and storage.
  • Prevents shrink by following production lists and properly rotating the product.
  • Prevents sale of spoiled and/or outdated products by following company policy on weighing, labeling, and date-checking of product. Pulls products one day ahead of sell-by date or earlier if the appearance is sub-par.
  • Ensures the cleanliness and sanitation of work areas, equipment, cutting room and retail Grab & Go cases as well as the full-service cases.
  • Adheres to the Co-Op set of core values.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Department Managers or Store Manager.

Qualifications And Skills

  • Ability to properly handle food products per State laws, health department codes and Boise Co-op standards.
  • Ability to learn and retain product variability, perishability, safety and sanitation procedures, and all department policies.
  • Ability to perform basic math (add, subtract, divide and multiply) and compute weights and measures.
  • Ability to perform primary duties with efficiency.
  • Ability to work varied hours between 4:00 am and 11 p.m. any day of a 7-day week, including holidays.
  • Ability to safely use cleaning chemicals in accordance with manufacture’s guidelines and instructions as found in our SDS manual.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the department including early mornings, evenings and weekends.
  • Adhere to scheduled shifts and be ready for work when shift begins.
  • Ability to consistently be at work and on time.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education And Experience

  • High school Diploma or GED
  • 2 years cutting meat in a retail environment.

Physical Demands

Sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a grocery setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight, up to 50lbs; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

Working Environment

Work is performed primarily in a grocery store setting with extensive public contact and frequent interruptions.
