We are seeking a Cashier to effectively and accurately ring up our customers purchases while engaging and demonstrating our Core Values to create a great shopping experience.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Exhibits excellent communication and engagement skills to make our customers feel welcomed and appreciated. Be proactive in greeting and assisting all customers within the cashiers work area.
- Enters accurate information (SKU, quantity, weight) into the POS system to capture correct inventory and sales data.
- Offers membership information to customers and actively offers to sign them up during the sales transaction.
- Demonstrates the Co-ops core value of asking the customer to Round Up their purchase for the months sponsored non-profit.
- Follows all cash handling and check receiving procedures and is expected to maintain the accuracy of their till.
- Shows a willingness to work and be available when the business dictates (open availability).
- Upholds state regulations concerning the sale of alcoholic beverages.
- Able to stay busy during slack times (dusting, making double bags, facing merchandise, helping fellow cashiers bag, gathering carts, cleaning eating areas and restrooms, etc.)
- Learning Webcarts pulling and delivery procedures to help the on-line customer.
- Assist in monitoring the self-checkout stations and answer any customers questions about the process.
- Manage difficult customer situations with objectivity, neutrality, calmness, and know when to get a member of leadership involved.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Department Managers, Leads or Store Manager.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Good memory skills to learn Produce and Deli codes to expediate the transaction process.
- Good engagement and communication skills.
- Ability to work expediently in a fast-paced environment.
- Full-time positions require open availability.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
- Able to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the department including early mornings, evenings and weekends.
- Adhere to scheduled shifts and be ready for work when shift begins.
- Ability to consistently be at work and on time.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1-3 years of retail cashier experience (preferably in a grocery store or other customer service centric sector).
Physical Demands:
Sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a grocery setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight, up to 50lbs; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
Working Environment:
Work is performed primarily in a grocery store setting with extensive public contact and frequent interruptions.
