We are seeking a Produce Clerk who will be responsible for the delivery of exceptional customer service in a friendly and professional manner, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction by effectively completing job requirements.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Committed to providing excellent customer service.
- Maintain Produce Department inventory and appearance through proper receiving, rotation, culling, storage, cleaning, organization, stocking, sampling, and creative merchandising.
- Reduce and log loss by properly recording all damaged products, spoilage, and breakage and utilizing ripe fruit for the Value-Added program.
- Build functional, attractive, and well-merchandised displays.
- Maintain accurate and appropriate signage.
- Prioritize time to ensure that prep work, stocking, cleaning, and customer service are handled efficiently.
- Maintain a working knowledge of produce (seasonality, organic/conventional, varieties, ripeness).
- Keeps department orderly and clean; report potentially unsafe conditions.
- Handles moderately complex issues and problems and refers more complex issues to high-level staff.
- Attending scheduled Produce Department meetings and all store meetings.
- Ability to organize, prioritize and accomplish tasks with little or no supervision.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with others to achieve common goals.
- Able to perform assigned tasks within various areas of the department, can flex into any positions within the department as needed.
- Able and willing to work a variety of shifts.
- Ability to work with a sense of urgency.
- Able to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the department including early mornings, evenings and weekends.
- Adhere to scheduled shifts and be ready for work when shift begins.
- Ability to consistently be at work and on time.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Previous produce experience and knowledge of natural foods products preferred.
- Intermediate cutlery skills.
- Current food handler’s card and other certification as required by federal, state, or local agencies is a plus.
Physical Demands:
Sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a grocery setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight, up to 50lbs; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
Working Environment:
Work is performed primarily in a grocery store setting with extensive public contact and frequent interruptions.
