This position will commence Aug 2025 for the 25-26 Academic year
Position Purpose: Responsible for teaching upper school social studies, specifically world history, while presenting the subject curriculum and providing effective instruction. Experience teaching additional social studies courses, such as comparative government, human geography, psychology, economics, or similar subjects, is strongly preferred.
Essential Functions:
- Prepare course objectives and follow established curriculum guidelines.
- Communicate course expectations effectively.
- Utilize varied teaching techniques to engage students and enhance learning.
- Design, administer, and evaluate assessments to monitor student progress.
- Assign lessons, provide timely feedback on written work, and evaluate oral presentations.
- Teach and enforce rules of conduct, maintaining order in the classroom and on school grounds.
- Council students when academic or adjustment issues arise.
- Discuss students’ academic performance and behavior with parents and advisors.
- Maintain accurate attendance and grade records as required by the school.
- Prepare report cards and provide individualized comments on student progress.
- Foster positive communication with parents, advisors, colleagues, and students.
- Respond effectively to inquiries from parents and colleagues, both orally and in writing.
- Coordinate and accompany students on class field trips, if applicable.
- Maintain regular office hours to advise and assist students.
- Collaborate with colleagues and students on out -of-classroom activities.
- Engage in professional development opportunities, such as further education, reading, workshops, and conferences.
- Demonstrate creative initiative to stay current in the discipline, including integrating technology into classroom instruction.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a related field is required, Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of three years of experience teaching social studies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven leadership and classroom management abilities.
- Ability to create an active and engaging learning environment.
- Strong organizational skills
- Proficiency in integrating technology into classroom instruction.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and move around the classroom or school campus for extended periods.

- Ability to use classroom technology, including interactive boards, projectors, and other multimedia tools.
- Ability to accompany students on field trips or participate in outdoor activities as required.
