Mentorship Program Coordinator

About the Position:  This position, along with the mentorship program it oversees, has been established in memory of J. Malcolm Jones Jr., a Bolles alumnus (Class of 1971) and former Chairman of the Bolles Board of Trustees. Mr. Jones dedicated his life to mentorship and philanthropy, cultivating meaningful relationships that enriched lives.

In his honor, The Bolles School seeks a compassionate and dynamic professional to design and guide a mentorship program that connects alumni, current and former parents, and non-Bolles professionals with current students, fostering meaningful relationships and impactful learning experiences.

Position Scope:

The Mentorship Program Coordinator will be responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive mentorship program that prepares students for success in college and life. This individual will develop a mentorship curriculum that emphasizes leadership, communication, time management, decision-making, and other essential life skills.

In addition to leading the mentorship program, this role includes teaching responsibilities to further support the academic and personal development of students. Working collaboratively with the Advancement and Academic Offices, the Mentorship Coordinator will ensure the program aligns with Bolles’ mission of fostering excellence, courage, integrity, and compassion. The program will model the values of Bolles’ “Portrait of a Graduate,” with a focus on academic excellence, wellness, leadership, character, and citizenship.

Essential Functions:

Program Development and Management

  • Design and implement a mentorship program that connects students with alumni, parents, and external professionals.
  • Develop a mentorship curriculum that supports student skill development in leadership, communication, time management, and decision-making.
  • Collaborate with the Advancement team to identify and recruit mentors from the Bolles community, including alumni, parents, and faculty.
  • Create and maintain a detailed timeline for program development and rollout.
  • Oversee all aspects of program implementation, including:
    • Recruiting, screening, training, and matching mentors and mentees.
    • Scheduling and facilitating mentorship meetings.
  • Develop strategies to identify and recruit students interested in mentorship opportunities.
  • Work closely with academic advisors and faculty to identify students who would benefit from mentorship.

 

Teaching and Curriculum Development

  • Teach up to three classes that align with the school’s academic mission and student development goals.
  • Incorporate mentorship principles into the classroom to reinforce program goals.
  • Design lessons and activities that help students develop critical life skills and prepare for post-secondary success.

Relationship Building

  • Actively promote the mentorship program within the school community through events, publications, and outreach efforts.
  • Foster positive and lasting relationships with participating students and mentors.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for mentorship participants, addressing concerns and ensuring program success.

Program Evaluation

  • Regularly evaluate the program using feedback from students and mentors to identify areas for growth and improvement.
  • Monitor and measure program success through surveys, goal tracking, and progress evaluations.
  • Maintain detailed records of mentor and mentee participation, engagement, and outcomes.

 

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in program development, mentorship, or related fields.
  • Experience in education, alumni relations, or advancement is highly desirable.
  • Must have a meaningful connection to The Bolles School community, such as being a current or former employee, alumnus/a, or parent. This role requires a demonstrated history with the school that fosters a deep understanding of and passion for its mission, values, and culture.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build and sustain meaningful relationships.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including students, alumni, parents, and professionals.

  • Communicates well and works effectively with all school personnel and families, as well as with the larger business and educational community
  • Performs other duties as requested

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the school and other facilities as needed.
