The Upper School curriculum is designed to prepare each student for college and beyond. All classes are taught in a demanding but exciting environment that refines the skills of each student. Honors classes and the Advanced Placement Program encourage students to reach for the highest level of their abilities while allowing students to receive advanced placement and/or college credits.

Position Purpose: The Bolles School is seeking an innovative and forward-thinking educator to teach the Bolles Wellness Seminar, a comprehensive course designed to equip upper school students with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage their health, well-being, and personal growth. The ideal candidate will be passionate about empowering students with the tools to lead healthy, balanced lives while fostering an engaging and supportive learning environment.
Essential Functions:
- Serve as a visionary leader in health and wellness education, driving innovative, student-centered programming that addresses both current wellness trends and timeless, foundational topics.
- Teach key topics such as stress management, emotional intelligence, healthy relationships, sexuality, consent, mental health, nutrition, exercise, and the impact of drugs and alcohol. Ensure that students are equipped with the necessary skills for a successful life.
- Integrate financial literacy into the course by teaching students' essential skills like budgeting, saving, investing, and understanding the financial implications of their life choices and basic financial transactions and earning interest.
- Teach students about the dangers and long-term effects of drug and alcohol use, addressing topics such as addiction, peer pressure, making informed decisions, and the social and emotional impacts of substance use.
- Work closely with administration to gather honest, constructive feedback from students regarding the current Bolles Wellness Seminar to assess its effectiveness and identify areas for refinement and growth.
- Continuously evaluate and improve the wellness curriculum to ensure it addresses the ever-changing needs of students and incorporates the latest research in wellness and life skills education.
- Visit other schools, in conjunction with administration, to explore wellness curriculums, course sequences, summer programs, extracurricular offerings, and the latest trends in wellness education. This research will be done to keep the Bolles Wellness Seminar curriculum innovative and relevant.
- Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities to improve teaching methods and enhance the ability to facilitate sensitive discussions on topics like sexuality, consent, mental health, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
- Collaborate with the Lower and Middle School programs to align wellness education across all grade levels, ensuring that wellness concepts build upon each other as students' progress through their academic journey.
- Work with counselors, DEI and Global Learning directors to develop and integrate meaningful wellness programming that aligns with the school’s values and promotes student growth across the school community.
- Provide individual support to students as they navigate their personal health and wellness challenges, helping them develop the skills to maintain balance in all aspects of their lives.
- Facilitate open, respectful discussions on challenging topics related to health, wellness, consent, drug and alcohol use, and DEI. Create a safe space for students to express themselves and develop greater self-awareness.
- Coordinate wellness-related events such as wellness days, fitness challenges, and other school-wide initiatives that promote the holistic well-being of students.
- Support the broader school community by offering wellness workshops, resources, and programs that foster a culture of well-being and self-care for both students and faculty.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Education, Psychology, Life Skills, Physical Education, or a related field (required)
- Master’s degree in a related field is preferred
- A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience, ideally in a high school setting or with adolescents
- Experience teaching health, wellness, life management, or financial literacy is strongly preferred
- Familiarity with current trends in wellness education, drug and alcohol education, DEI, and social-emotional learning (SEL)
- Athletic coaching is preferred
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to create and implement innovative, engaging curricula
- Proficient in facilitating sensitive conversations and fostering a safe, inclusive environment for students to explore health-related topics
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to connect with students, parents, and colleagues
- Ability to integrate financial literacy and other life management skills into a cohesive wellness curriculum
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Physical Requirements:
