Position Overview: A 3rd Class Outside Machinist is a skilled tradesperson specializing in the assembly, installation, and maintenance of complex mechanical systems typically found in marine environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Determines methods of fabrication, assembly, and installation of various machinery and equipment.
- Installation and alignment of marine propulsion equipment.
- Aligning and adjusting of marine propulsion equipment.
- Drills and secures the installed piece of equipment into place.
- Cleans up and maintains assigned work area.
- Minimum of two (2) years of marine experience with a similar position.
- Good working knowledge of propulsion system alignments.
- Knowledge of how to use tools and equipment (e.g. magnetic base drills, portable machining equipment, chain falls, jacks, etc.).
- Familiar with some aspects of welding.
- Basic knowledge in repairing propulsion drive line components.
- Basic knowledge of standard marine practice and general specifications for repair.
- Understanding of marine propulsion construction techniques and best practices.
- Ability to use precision tools and equipment effectively.
- Understanding of system start-up procedures and machinery plant operations.
- Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with other team members and departments.
