Title: Engineering Lead A – Hull
Location: Pascagoula, MS
Position Overview
The Engineering Hull Lead is responsible for supervising a team within the Functional Hull Design group, ensuring the timely delivery of project goals and technical deliverables. Reporting directly to the Functional Hull Design Manager, this role involves project oversight, technical approval, coordination with cross-disciplinary teams, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Technical Oversight:
Manage Functional Hull Design deliverables, including scheduling and ensuring on-time issuance.
Approve technical content and quality of engineering deliverables.
Oversee and assign design calculations and drawing development for the project.
Team Supervision & Leadership
Supervise project team members, providing technical guidance and mentorship.
Coordinate with other engineering discipline leads to ensure project alignment.
Support the Production Design group as needed.
Cross-Functional Coordination
Work with Project Engineers, Program Management, and Production teams to meet project milestones.
Lead meetings with subcontractors, customers, and regulatory authorities.
Manage subcontractor deliverables, ensuring technical accuracy and schedule adherence.
Procurement & Compliance
Support the procurement of materials, collaborating with Supply Chain Management.
Develop Scopes of Work for quotations.
Ensure compliance with Maritime Regulatory Authorities (ABS, DNV, NAVSEA, MIL, USCG, IMO, MSC).
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
The ideal candidate is proactive, resourceful, and a problem solver, with strong leadership and communication skills.
Expertise in marine vessel design and construction across various disciplines:
Naval Architecture – Stability, intact & damage calculations, incline/deadweight experiments, launch calculations.
Structural Engineering – Scantling design, welding, penetrations, repairs.
Outfitting – Joiner equipment, foundations, windows, portlights, doors, hatches, manholes, inclined ladders.
Proven experience in supervising teams.
Strong scheduling and deadline management skills.
Ability to collaborate with production teams, design firms, customer representatives, and equipment manufacturers.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, NAVIS, General Hydrostatics, Microsoft Office Suite.
FEMAP experience is a plus.
Desirable Experience & Training
Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
Minimum 3 years of experience in ship design and/or construction.
