What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sustainable Grounds Operations Specialist position at Bolton Inc.?
We’re seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Sustainable Grounds Operations Specialist to help steward and support the physical heartbeat of our 36-acre regenerative campus. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys working outdoors, solving problems in real time and helping a property function smoothly and safely. You’ll be responsible for various upkeep and maintenance tasks, making sure that everything stays manicured, operational and aligned with our standards of care. This is more than just facilities — this is stewardship of a place built to serve people, plants and purpose.
The property is a multi-faceted development rooted in sustainability, community and regenerative systems. The project includes production agriculture, food processing, green waste composting, event spaces, wellness areas, workforce housing and community-based programming. Your role ensures that our ecosystem runs well: the land and infrastructure are cared for with consistency and intention. This is an opportunity to work on a one-of-a-kind project that will serve as a blueprint for community-centered spaces — and to be part of something that matters.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Perform regular upkeep of trails, walkways, roadways, open spaces and outdoor gathering areas
- Conduct minor building repairs
- Maintain irrigation systems and help install new lines as needed
- Perform regular checks on micro-grid energy systems
- Operate and maintain equipment such as weed-eaters, power washers, mowers, tractors, and other various tools
- Assist with set-up and breakdown for community events, workshops and market days
- Help build and maintain new infrastructure like fencing, compost equipment, benches, decks, signage, etc.
- Support safety, cleanliness and organization
- Identify maintenance needs proactively and collaborate with leadership to plan work
- Other duties as assigned by managers or supervisors
Ideal Candidate Qualities:
- Experience in groundskeeping, facilities maintenance, landscaping, or construction
- Reliable, responsive, and self-directed — you take pride in your work and see what needs to be done
- Familiarity with basic power tools, plumbing and light electrical systems
- Comfortable working outdoors in diverse weather and terrain
- Values teamwork, communication and working with purpose
- Able to lift 50 lbs and complete physical tasks safely and efficiently
- Passionate about sustainability, land care and place-based community development
Bonus Skills (Not required):
- Experience with off-grid systems (solar, LP, water catchment)
- Carpentry, welding or handyman trade skills
- Knowledge of native or edible plant care
- Experience grafting or air-layering fruit trees
What We Offer:
- A role with purpose, grounded in service and stewardship
- A values-aligned work environment where sustainability and respect guide everything we do
- Opportunity to grow with the organization as the property evolves
- Training in regenerative systems, composting, solar and more (if interested)
- A chance to contribute to a landmark project redefining what a modern community space can be
