The primary function and general purpose of the adjunct faculty position is to provide the opportunity to offer multiple sections of courses and/or offer courses outside the area of expertise of the full-time faculty. Responsibilities are focused upon providing excellence in teaching within the nursing curriculum.
Summary
- Ground teaching, learning assessment, and evaluation strategies in educational and curricular theory and evidence-based teaching research.
- Plan and provide didactic, clinical, and/or laboratory instruction that reflects an understanding of the philosophy, objectives, and curriculum of the educational program.
- Utilize innovative teaching strategies and information technologies to facilitate student learning.
- Provide availability to students in order to answer questions/concerns regarding course material and expectations.
- Evaluate student achievement of curricular objectives/outcomes.
- Maintain accurate record of student achievement and submit documentation of such to both students and the registrar by established deadlines.
- Meets specific faculty role expectations delineated in the Associate Handbook.
- Engage in critical self-reflection regarding personal performance as a faculty member.
- Manage time effectively for course preparation and learning activities.
- To teach nursing courses a master’s or doctoral degree in nursing is required.
- To teach non-nursing courses a master’s or doctoral degree in the appropriate related field is required. *A doctoral degree is required for the ranks of academic associate professor, academic professor, and clinical professor.
- Two years of clinical experience in the field required.
- Two years of teaching experience preferred
- Current license to practice as a registered nurse or in appropriate field in the Commonwealth of VA, as applicable.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills to include Word, instructional technology, and clinical practice is required.
- Certification in area of clinical expertise or as nurse educator preferred.
