Cath Lab Medic Technician
Position Summary
Cath lab Medic Technician, performs under the direction of the Director of the Cath Lab or designee, and is responsible for providing quality patient care which utilizes knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, is appropriate to the age of the patients served, is family-centered and based on the philosophy of Bon Secours Health System.
Essential Job Functions
- Cath Lab Medic Technician collaborates with physicians and nursing staff during patient care.
- Performs Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) patient care to include airway insertion, defibrillation/cardioversion, IV insertion, phlebotomy, EKG’s, and rhythm interpretation.
- Transports within the hospital to designated unit and/or remains with any patient requiring critical care monitoring during testing/procedure (i.e. CT, MRI, Vascular, Nuclear Medicine, etc).
- Maintains proficiency with interpreting invasive and noninvasive pressure waveforms to include SpO2.
- Participate in various emergency situations to include suctioning, insertion, of oral or nasal airways and maintenance of same.
- Responds to a variety of requests including running errands to other departments, ie., Blood Bank, ER, Lab, Materiel Management, Dietary, and Medical Records, etc. Greets and directs patients, physicians, and visitors in a friendly and pleasant fashion. Communicates professionally and effectively with other members of the healthcare team.
- Demonstrates attitudes and behaviors that are courteous and respectful. Utilizes appropriate and timely communication skills to carry out the following: Answers phone, responds to routine inquires, and relays other calls and messages. Able to prioritize situation/requests appropriately.
- Assists the nursing staff in restocking the bedside cabinets with supply items and warming cabinets with solutions and linens, appropriate to the assigned work area. Demonstrates ability to identify and retrieve needed equipment. Inventories and maintains an adequate level of supplies for the assigned work area and communicates order needs to management.
- Cleans and makes up stretchers. Cleans all areas per policies, using hospital approved disinfectant solutions.
- Required Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED
- Licensure/Certification Required: Current EMT-Paramedic or Advanced EMT, BLS, and ACLS
- Minimum Years and Type of Experience: At least 2 years of EMS experience
- Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Proficient with patient assessment, 12 lead EKG, and defibrillation/cardioversion/Pacing.
- Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: IV Therapy
