Primary Function/General Purpose Of Position
Facilitates the operative or other invasive procedure by preparing and providing the required sterile instruments, supplies and equipment. Maintains the sterile field and anticipates and responds to the needs of the surgical team.
Essential Job Functions
Licensing/Certification
Certified through a Nationally Recognized Certifying Agency (e.g., NBSTSA or NCCT) (required)
CPR (required). Must have or complete certification within 6 months from date of hire.
Education
High School Diploma or GED (required)
Associates Degree, Vocational Certification, or Military Certificate in Surgical Technology (required, unless being hired into a Labor and Delivery unit in Ohio then preferred)
(or grandfathered in SC as a surgical technologist due to working prior to 2008)
Work Experience
Work requires knowledge of basic sciences, such as anatomy and physiology, microbiology, etc., asepsis and sterile techniques and operating room techniques.
Training
Work includes three to six months on-the-job training (orientation) for full familiarity with surgeon's preferences and department policies and procedures.

Essential Job Functions
- Assists with the care, preparation, and maintenance of sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment.
- Maintains open communication with members of the surgical team to assure a collaborative work environment is maintained.
- Assists in training and orientation of students and new staff members.
- Complies with established hospital policies, procedures, and practices to assure that standards of quality, efficiency, and safety are met.
- Attends educational programs as prescribed by departmental policy and individual need. Maintains all required certifications. Stays abreast of changes in policies and procedures.

- Interprets information need to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific need: Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric

- Must take call per Policy and Procedure

Licensing/Certification
