CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER | Harbour View Medical Center | Suffolk, VA
This position reports to the Market CFO and provides financial support to designated sites by working with the corporate office, management, staff, and other key leaders to ensure that the site and associated entities are operating effectively, with sound financial analysis, and appropriate financial and operating controls.
Essential Job Functions
With the Site CEO:
- Provides financial leadership to the acute care facility, including:
Driving the annual budget process
Interpreting financial results with operating managers
Periodic financial forecasts
Development of information needed to support performance improvement initiatives.
- Participates as a member of the site executive management team, establishing plans and accountability measures to facilitate the team meeting operating targets
- Monitors financial activities and established objectives and recommends appropriate changes
- Assesses the impact of strategic issues on the organization and makes recommendations to address these issues
With the Department Managers:
- Liaison and facilitator within the acute facility
- Educates department managers on budgets, monthly reports, etc.
- Regularly meets with department managers to track and ensure performance on site-specific financial initiatives.
- Follows up on aberrations to expected financial performance (labor metrics, budget, etc.)
- Supports business analysis for new projects
With the Finance Team:
- Provides integral direction for all financial decisions made for the site, plays a key role at the senior leadership level giving input into the strategic decisions made at the site and serves as a business counselor to other senior executives within the facility
- Pro-active member of the site executive team among all constituent groups, significantly contributing in deliberations relative to strategic direction and other matters, and being a key advisor to the Chief Executive Officer and other senior executives.
- Liaison and facilitator between the acute facility and centralized finance function.
- Active in functions such as case management (denials), revenue cycle, HIM, IT etc based on region structure.
- Leads the financial planning process and analysis of business initiatives
- Assists in month-end close to ensure that info is provided timely
- Assists in compilation of information for annual tax filings
- Assists in compilation of information for cost report filings
- Actively participates in Mercy Health projects as assigned
REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s Degree – Business, Accounting, Finance or related field
- Minimum 3-5 years accounting and management experience with significant time in a healthcare setting
- Demonstrated history of effective operations management, including compliance with financial rules and regulations, while managing to budgetary expectations
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Self-motivated and able to prioritize multiple competing priorities and deadlines
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and financial forecasting and analysis software
- Able to work effectively in a team environment and have excellent rapport with management, colleagues, and subordinates
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Excellent supervisory skills
PREFERRED:
- MBA or Master's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Healthcare Administration
- CPA
