The Histology Technician needs to ensure tissue specimens received from surgical, diagnostic, or autopsy cases are sorted, logged, and prioritized according to the required standards. Responsibilities include, providing the highest quality medical laboratory services, working independently, and troubleshooting any problems, under the general supervision of a manager or lead technologist.Essential Functions : Performs histological procedures including accessioning, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and stainingAssists the Pathologist in the gross examination of surgical specimens and in frozen section proceduresReport accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient careDocument problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions when neededOperates and maintains all histology area lab equipment in the proper state of readiness, cleanliness, and sharpens and hone microtome knivesMonitors inventory of supplies, equipment, and reagents used, and places orders for replacements as requiredOther duties as assignedRequired Education : High School Degree or GEDAssociate of ScienceCertifications : Histotechnician (HT) Certification by a nationally recognized certification agency (preferably ASCP) (preferred)Experience : Histology experience preferred, not requiredSkills & Abilities : Encourages other lab personnel to work towards professional growth and development by sharing informationAbility to work independently within a team and strong attention to detailAbility to provide quality, error-free work in a fast-pasted environmentEngage with staff and patients in a professional mannerMany of our opportunities reward
