Respiratory Care Intern
Southside Medical Center in Petersburg, VA
PRN (as needed, 36 hours every 6 weeks required)
Please note that applicants must be second-year students (or in their second semester) who have completed at least one clinical rotation.
Primary Function/General Purpose Of Position
The Respiratory Care Interns or student will develop the ability to gain additional clinical experience and knowledge prior to the completion of their education in a CoARC approved Respiratory Care program and their subsequent credentialing as a licensed Respiratory Care Professional (RCP). The Intern or student will be under the direct supervision of the Respiratory Supervisor or their designee, and the intern will always be assigned to an RCP. The respiratory care intern needs to be a second year (semester) student and be will responsible for: following department policies and procedures and the administration of diagnostic and therapeutic modalities of Respiratory Care, under the direct supervision of a licensed respiratory care professional.

Healthcare Provider CPR Certification (required)
Education
High school diploma/GED ( required)
Currently enrolled in an accredited Respiratory Therapy program
The intern must have completed one semester of clinical rotations at a CoARC approved school of Respiratory Care (required)

Essential Job Functions
- Performs patient assessment, delivers basic Oxygen and aerosolized medication therapy.
- Performs CPR, Arterial Blood Gas Analysis, sputum induction and other basic diagnostic tests, as assigned.
- Cleans and performs pre-use testing for various respiratory care equipment, machines etc.
- Functions as a team member in care of patients.
- Standards of clinical excellence, according to Departmental policies.
- Maintains clinical productivity standards.
- Maintains technical clinical expertise through inquisitive curiosity.
- Maintains patient confidentiality according to HIPAA policies.
