Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
The Associate Analyst, Privacy investigates potential privacy breaches and noncompliance with Bon Secours Mercy Health (BSMH) Privacy/HIPAA-related policies. The Associate Analyst is responsible for implementing and administering BSMH’s Privacy policies and procedures at the entry level, and helping to ensure compliance with HIPAA, HITECH and state mandated privacy and confidentiality requirements. The Associate Analyst participates in other compliance-related duties as necessary or as assigned.
Essential Job Functions
- Investigates, documents, and reports on issues related to privacy and confidentiality of Protected Health Information (PHI) under the Heath Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
- Receives training from Privacy Program personnel on BSMH electronic systems to review audit findings and work on other privacy-related projects.
- Requests data and/or access audits of electronic systems and incorporates audit finding results into investigations.
- Interviews individuals and electronically documents responses and other information relevant to privacy investigations.
- Completes investigations in a manner that maintains compliance with governing state and federal laws.
- Receives training on and prepares breach notification letters per the requirements of the BSMH HIPAA Breach Notification Policy.
- Creates and maintains electronic documentation for privacy incident investigations, resolutions, and corrective actions/sanctions.
- Meets regularly with and keeps Privacy Director apprised of the status of all investigations and projects.
- Maintains confidentiality of the matters under investigation or previously investigated.
- Attends various staff meetings of the Privacy Program and the Compliance Department.
- Travel, if required by the Privacy Director, and approved by the Chief Privacy Officer, to complete on-site audits and investigations.

Licensing/Certification
Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC) or Certified Information Management Professional (CIPM) (Preferred)
Education
Bachelor's Degree (Required).
Concentration in Business Administration, Health Care Management or Health Information Management (preferred)
Work Experience
1-3 years’ experience working with HIPAA and HITECH privacy rules or related compliance areas. (Required)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required:
- Experience or demonstrated ability to identify problems, analyze data and present conclusions effectively.
- Experience or demonstrated ability to learn electronic case management systems and information analysis.
- Due to the sensitive nature of privacy investigations, applicants must be able to maintain the highest level of confidentiality while exhibiting strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
- Must be a motivated self-starter with the ability to excel at multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment
Preferred:
- Prior healthcare experience is preferred.
- EPIC Electronic Health Record experience is preferred.
- Associate Access Monitoring Systems experience is preferred.
