The Director of Mission, under the direction of the Market Executive of Mission, provides leadership and strengthens the presence and influence of the mission in the assigned facility, services and activities. The Director coordinates efforts to ensure the integration of our Catholic identity through Bon Secours Mercy Health Mission’s four key strategic pillars: Spirituality, Ethics, Catholic Social Teaching and Mission Integration. The Director serves as a member of the institution’s leadership team collaborating to achieve key priority initiatives and demonstrating leadership culture behaviors. Directors may have market responsibilities per direction of the Market Executive of Mission.

Essential Job Functions
- Responds to facility mission needs as related to spirituality, ethics, catholic social teaching and mission integration.
- Initiates and recommends budget for department: Formulates review and approves all budget expenditures with the Executive of Mission.
- Participates in regular leadership meetings of market or site; participates in operational meetings and committees related to the role of Mission and Values
- Partners with community health, diversity and inclusion, sustainability and advocacy functions on mission related initiatives.
- Has specific responsibility for a presence and involvement at site and makes rounds to support patient experience and associate well-being.
- Promotes use of rituals to help employees understand the spiritual meaning and Catholic heritage of key celebrations (ie. Foundress days, Earth Day, Feast of St. Francis, MLK Jr. Day)
- Orients new hires to Mission and values, the culture of the organization and historical legacy of the Sisters and Catholic identity. Orients new managers to their role in clinical and organizational ethics and identifies each employee as responsible for knowing and living the mission
- Collaborates with Human Resources to recognize and celebrate associates who demonstrate a commitment to Mission through values-based behaviors;
- Serve a Co-chair of ethics committee and leads ethics program for the institution. Coordinates with Group Ethics lead on best practices, ethics competencies and ensures compliance with the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care.
- In collaboration with the Market Executive of Mission, implements the BSMH system KPIs, Mission strategic initiatives as they connect to the assigned institution.
- Required Minimum Education: Graduate Degree (Masters) in Theology, Religious Studies or related field
- Practicing member of the Roman Catholic Church (preferred.)
- Minimum Years and Type of Experience: 2-3 years of demonstrated leadership experience in a health care or not-for-profit organization. Leadership experience with faith-based organizations.
- Strong working knowledge of Catholic theology, as outlined in CHA Competencies for Mission Leaders.
- Strong working knowledge of the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services
- Committed to embracing and sharing the values of Bon Secours Mercy Health System, strong sense of service orientation
- Skilled at relationship building.
- Effective communicator who can work collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituencies
- Outstanding public speaking and presentation skills
- Effective negotiator who can advocate effectively and build consensus
