Referral Specialist  (Ref Spc) - Physician Office - Patterson Avenue Family Practice - Richmond, VA

Job Summary:

Process all incoming and outgoing referrals, manage physician office schedules and provide back-up to Front Office.    

Essential Functions:

• Provide support and fill in for any non-clinical staff based on immediate needs due to work flow overload or employee absence.
• Assist office manager in training new non-clinical employees.
• Handle incoming phone calls and messages from patients.  
• Process all incoming referrals (through EMR system, faxes, phone calls)
• Process all outgoing referrals ordered by providers.
• Schedule all patient incoming referral appointments.
• Assist clinical staff in resolving scheduling issues as requested.
• Coordinate necessary medical records, lab and radiology results for appointment.
• Process payments to office as needed.
• Handle reminder calls to patients for appointments/testing/exams.
• Work with the Office Manager to problem solve and implement improvements.

Education: 

• High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience: 

• 2 years’ experience in a medical office setting required. 
• Ability to operate office equipment to include computer, fax machine and copiers, and familiarity with practice management and EMR systems.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
