POSITION REPORTS TO: Warehouse Manager

POSITION PURPOSE

The Yard Switcher will participate in warehouse operations and assist with managing the yard. Responsibilities include shuttling trailers between buildings and doors, local pick-ups and deliveries, and loading and unloading trailers. This position will work closely with the Shipping and Receiving departments to increase efficiency and profitability and achieve company objectives while maintaining a focus on customer service and inventory accuracy. This Yard Switcher also contributes to a positive team atmosphere and applies safety guidelines in a fair and consistent manner.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB DUTIES

QUALIFICATION AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma and/or equivalent work experience
• A valid CDL is required
• 5 years driving a day cab, OTR, or yard switcher experience
• Good driving record for the past 5 years
• Strong attention to detail and time management skills
• Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to operate forklifts and willing to assist in loading and unloading

JOB DUTIES:

• Operate and maintain yard truck/day cab.
• Load and unload warehouse stock products (pick, unload, label, store).
• Support in basic preventive maintenance and repair of equipment as needed.
• Maintain a powered equipment license for forklifts and material handling equipment.
• Transport materials to production areas.
• Keep a clean and safe working environment and optimize space utilization.
• Inspect vehicle/MHE and determine the need for repair.
• Communicate and cooperate with supervisors and coworkers.
• Keep the warehouse clean and adhere to the 5’S Housekeeping Standards
• Comply with company policies and guidelines.
• Bring ideas to management and be able to implement necessary process improvements.
• Able and willing to work necessary hours to meet all project deadlines.
• Develop mutually beneficial, respectful, and effective relationships with peers to ensure seamless coordination between departments, maximize synergy, and maintain a shared vision, strategy, and focus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
• Must be able to bend, climb stairs, and continuously stand or walk 50% of the time.
• Must be able to move within the office and plant to reach file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Must be able to use dexterity to handle small safety equipment and/or hazardous material.
• Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds and frequently move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to communicate effectively by listening and in both written and verbal forms.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Generally, works in a manufacturing and warehousing environment
• This position also requires some amount of time to be spent using computer equipment, which entails regular and repetitive motions.
• Will regularly be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, or chemicals. All safety procedures should be adhered to in each of these situations.
• Subject to working near moving parts of heavy machinery and high voltage equipment where use of appropriate safety equipment is required.
• Work includes indoor and outdoor environment during possible adverse weather conditions.

Compensation Range: $21.00 to $23.00 per hour
