Job Description / Scope of Work :
We are looking for a psychiatrist to join the Health Services Department at a detention center in Brooklyn.
The Psychiatrist will conduct examinations on patients scheduled by the institution's medical staff. Responsibilities include conducting psychiatric evaluations and making referral recommendations for inmates.
Each workday will consist of eight (8) sessions, totaling two (2) workdays per week (16 sessions unpaid half-hour lunch). The candidate will have eight (8) sessions to complete a workday. Clinics will typically be scheduled between the hours of 7 : 30 am and 4 : 00 pm (including an unpaid ½ hour lunch) on Tuesdays and Thursdays, excluding federal holidays. The scheduled days will be mutually agreed upon.
Responsibilities :
- The candidate shall provide psychiatry services conforming to all local, state, and federal laws and regulations applicable to psychiatric care. Services will adhere to Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. ( AAAHC ) standards and Bureau of Prisons (BOP) policies.
- Direct entries into the inmates' Bureau of Electronic Medical Records ( BEMR ) are required, documenting patient history, findings, assessment, treatment plans, and follow-up recommendations.
- Services provided will meet AAAHC standards and local medical practices, subject to periodic review by the Health Services Administrator (HSA) and Facility Point of Contact (POC).
- The HSA retains professional responsibility for referred patients, while the candidate must adhere to all applicable regulations and guidelines during service provision.
- The Government may evaluate service quality but retains no control over medical, professional judgments, or specific treatment decisions.
- Submission of consultation sheets provided by the institution's medical staff is required, detailing all aspects of services rendered.
- All information provided must be signed, authenticated, legible, and fully address patient assessments and management.
- Inmate records are confidential property of the Federal Bureau of Prisons, and release requires prior approval from the HSA or designee and the FOIA / Privacy Act Branch of the Office of General Counsel in Central Office, Washington, DC.
- The candidate is not responsible for inmate supervision but must report any infractions to the appropriate designer.
- The candidate must provide services without distinction based on race, color, creed, national origin, or physical condition, adhering to standards outlined in the contract.
