Job Description:
Essential Functions
Follows all established safety procedures, reporting unsafe conditions. Tests metal and sand properties Equipment maintenance and calibration Data collection and documentation Accept broad assignments often with only the final objective being clearly defined. Employee must understand the interaction of the various departments, which may influence ability to carry out the assignment and recognize the influence of results on the foundry operation. Work appropriately with minimal supervision.
Principal Duties/Tasks
Collect metal, green sand and core sand samples from appropriate departments / areas as required. Perform analyses on samples using various types of lab equipment in metal and/or sand labs. Record and distribute data as needed. Take corrective action / notify supervision when test results do not meet requirements. Machine tests bars and perform tensile tests. Perform Brinell and Rockwell hardness tests in the laboratory. Prepare metallographic samples / polishing and etching solutions as needed. Perform system water tests from various locations throughout the plant Be capable of repairing CE stands. Maintain inventory of bond, sand and laboratory supplies as directed. Order raw materials and supplies as required. Ensure laboratory cleanliness and maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment for all employees and immediately report all safety and or environmental problems to management. Perform assigned duties in a timely manner, as doing both metal & sand testing may occasionally be necessary. Train lab employees as needed.

Field of Study
High School/GED

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents, such as QCL’s, MSDS sheets, and other related documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries from other employees or supervisors.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to apply common sense reasoning to variety of situations.
