Bondurant-Farrar CSD is seeking a Professional School Counselor at Bondurant-Farrar High School (serving grades 9-12) for the 2025-26 school year.

- Minimally, professional school counselors will start on Step 1 of the MA 15 Lane.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree in School Counseling
- Current licensure for school counseling in the State of Iowa
- Professional School Counselor 5-12 (173) Endorsement
- Valid Iowa School Counseling Certificate
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
ROLE OF THE SCHOOL COUNSELOR:
The mission of the Bondurant-Farrar Community School District School Counseling Program is to provide a comprehensive, K-12 school counseling program that is preventative in nature addressing the academic, career, and social/emotional development of all students. In partnership with teachers, administrators, parents, students, and the community, the school counselors will help all students strive to be successful lifelong learners, problem-solvers, and productive citizens.
MAJOR FUNCTIONS:
- Direct Student Services
- Instruction
- Teach (use of direct instruction) the school counseling curriculum to students focused through the lens of selected student standards from the ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors for Student Success
- Guide individuals and groups of students through the development of educational, personal, social or career learning opportunities; including, but not limited to experience with Iowa's system for four-year planning
- Participate in planned activities outside the classroom promoting academic, career or social/emotional development
- Collaboratively deliver additional developmentally appropriate and prevention oriented curriculum as needed based on school/site specific goals and needs
- Appraisal and Advisement
- Assess student abilities, interests and achievement to help them make decisions about their future
- Responsible for accurate and timely record keeping and monitoring progress of students, including, but not limited to, student schedules, transcripts, and four-year plans
- Counseling
- Provide professional assistance and support to a student or small group of students during times of transition, heightened stress, critical change or other situations impeding student success. School counselors do not provide therapy or long-term counseling in schools
- School counselors are prepared to recognize and respond to student mental health needs and to assist students and families
- Provide developmental and problem-centered individual counseling
- Develop strategies to help students succeed in the school environment, working with them individually to find solutions to problems with home and family relations, health and emotional adjustments that interfere with the student's learning
- Indirect Student Services
- Consultation
- Share strategies supporting student achievement with parents, teachers, other educators and community organizations
- Participate in and/or provide professional development opportunities for teachers
- Develop and monitor accommodations, interventions and formalized plans including, but not limited to: 504 Plans, Individualized Education Plans (IEP), and/or MTSS Process
- Be knowledgeable about resources and services within the district, along with community partners, in order to provide appropriate referrals for students and families when necessary
- Collaboration
- Work with other educators, parents and the community to support student achievement and career development goals
- Ability to involve parents and communities in supporting student learning and healthy development
- Has an understanding of the key processes in a Professional Learning Community and acts as a contributing as a member of their PLC teams
- Provide support and assistance to students, families, and the school community as they navigate crisis and emergency situations
- Referrals
- Guide parents to available resources outside the school, and act as a liaison between the school and other agencies in the community
- Refer students with specific needs and their parents to special programs, specialists and outside agencies when necessary

- Utilize student information database systems (Infinite Campus) to adjust and monitor schedules
- Analyze school and school counseling program data to determine the impact of the school counseling program
- Communicate the goals of the comprehensive school counseling program to education stakeholders
- Provide systems support through effective school counseling program management and support for other educational programs
- Fair-Share Responsibility Activities
- Member of PBIS, EWS, Tier I, II and III teams
- 504 Building Coordinator
- Professional Responsibilities
- Participate in professional development activities to promote professional growth while improving knowledge and skills
- Uphold the ethical and professional standards of the American School Counselor Association and the Iowa School Counselor Association
- Discuss the comprehensive school counseling program with the school administrator
- Successful demonstration of a commitment and adherence to the academic development, career development, and personal/social development of students all while demonstrating the ability to maintain levels of integrity, leadership, and professionalism
