Job Summary:
As a Telecom Construction Inspector II, you will be responsible for overseeing the construction and installation of aerial and buried/underground telecommunications infrastructure. This includes inspecting a team of subcontract construction partner crew members, ensuring adherence to safety standards, overseeing project timelines, material handling, quality assurance, client required documentation for close-out, and coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure successful completion of projects.
This position reports to the Midwest Operations Manager and requires 80 percent field presence and 20 percent office support and warehouse/yard duties.
What You Get to Do (Duties/Responsibilities):
- Inspect the construction and installation of aerial and buried/underground telecommunications infrastructure, including aerial, trench, directional bore, handhole placement, fiber cable placement, QA/QC inspections, as-built documentation, and project close-out.
- Lead a team of subcontract construction partners, including assigning tasks, providing training, and ensuring adherence to project specifications and safety regulations.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to plan and schedule aerial construction activities, ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Conduct regular inspections of construction sites to ensure quality control and compliance with safety standards and regulations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues or problems that arise during construction, including equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, and logistical challenges.
- Maintain accurate records of project progress, including daily reports, work orders, and materials inventory.
- Communicate regularly with project team, including clients, subcontract partners, and regulatory agencies, to provide updates on project status and address any concerns or issues.
- Implement and enforce safety protocols and procedures to minimize risks to workers and ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements.
- Provide guidance to subcontract construction partner crew members, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and new technologies related to aerial telecommunications construction, and incorporate them into project planning and execution.
What We Are Searching For (Required Skills/Abilities):
- Communicate clear and accurate information regarding quantities and deliverables to Construction Manager and Project Manager.
- In-depth knowledge of buried/underground construction techniques, equipment, and materials, as well as safety regulations and industry standards.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction plans, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Understanding permits, JSA, and traffic control safety measures.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record, with the ability to travel to and from construction sites as needed.
- Commitment to upholding high standards of quality, safety, and professionalism in all aspects of work.
Education/Certifications/Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor's degree in construction management or related field preferred.
- Previous experience in aerial construction, telecommunications, or related field, with at least 3-5 years of supervisory experience.
- Proficient use of MS-Office Suite software and other communication tracking software.
