This position is for the month of April to help student prepare for the STAAR exam.

 

SUMMARY

 

An instructional tutor provides students supplemental instructional services with appropriate learning activities in targeted areas of core curriculum to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual growth.  The tutor collaborates with campus personnel to prepare lessons and instructional materials to address students' learning needs.  The tutor works with individual and small groups to provide supplemental instruction to close learning gaps.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Collaborate with core teacher to develop instructional design for each student assigned.
  • Implement instructional program for assigned students targeting areas of need as designed by the classroom teacher or Instructional Coach.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of assigned students.
  • Conduct ongoing formative assessments of student achievement and regularly discuss/report results to teacher or Instructional Coach.
  • Consult with classroom teachers regarding management of student behavior according to student behavior plans.
  • Establish and maintain open communication with students, principals, and students.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Associate Principal.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Valid Texas Teaching Certificate and strong math background preferred

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, administration, staff, parents, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to travel to multiple campuses, as assigned and is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Employee may also be required to occasionally travel out-of-district for school functions and/or activities.
