What are the responsibilities and job description for the Machinist position at Bonney Forge Corporation?
Primary function of this position is to set up and operate Engine Lathes, Turret Lathes, Milling Machine, Drill Presses, Grinders, Band Saws, set-up and operate all CNC programmed equipment and other various machine shop tools to produce or repair a variety of tools, fixtures, gauges, etc., used in the machine shop.
Typical Duties:
- Select and use proper cutting tools for desired result.
- Select proper material for specific job.
- Start machine and make necessary adjustments.
- Obtains material to produce desired part.
- Select proper feeds and speeds.
- Properly document all requested jobs.
- Applies tools and accessories to machine as requested.
- Understands standard surface finishes and how to achieve them.
- Properly stamps tools (bushings, pin, etc.) for proper identification.
- Clean machine and work areas.
- Measure and gauge work with proper measuring equipment (dial indicators, micrometers, etc.).
- Read and interpret blue prints and sketches.
- Layout simple jobs and make simple sketch of work piece.
- Operates one or more machine tools simultaneously.
- Repair broken or misaligned tooling.
- Do outside/inside diameter threading with a single point tool.
- Follow methodology to produce tools, fixtures, etc., as described by lead man and/or supervisor.
- Adds coolant as necessary.
Required Skills:
- Use of measuring tools.
- Machine shop experience and/or Tech School machine course including:
- Knowledge of metal working processes.
- Blue print reading.
- Hands-on experience: turning, milling, set-up and operate all CNC programmed equipment in machine shop.
- Knowledge and ability to recognize standard G code for CNC programing/machining.
- Utilize onboard intuitive programming provide on CNC equipment.
- Load and set-up CNC programs provided by engineering to achieve desired results.
- Have the ability to modify simple programs within the controls to fine tune simple X, Y and Z moves.
