We are seeking a highly motivated Fuel Systems Engineer to help us design and manage the fuel systems for our aircraft programs. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting design, analysis, and optimization efforts for fuel systems across various projects, ensuring compliance with technical requirements and program goals.

Alongside expertise in fuel systems, the ideal candidate should be a first principles thinker with a strong collaborative mindset that is not afraid to reimagine traditional engineering with bold, creative problem-solving.

Role Overview

As part of a fast-paced innovative team shaping the future of flight, you'll work hand-in-hand with our engineering team to plan, analyze and integrate the fuel storage and delivery systems on Overture and future aircraft programs. This role spans the design, manufacturing, integration, and testing of a clean-sheet fuel system for Boom, supporting development across engines, vehicles, and industrial applications— including pumps, filters, tanks, and delivery systems. You will be responsible for conducting performance analysis for maximum optimization, emission control, and system durability, while also aiding in key other areas to include:

  • Conduct performance analysis and simulations of fuel systems to ensure optimal fuel efficiency, emission control, and system durability.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to integrate fuel systems into larger engine or vehicle systems.
  • Create technical documents and design reports for fuel systems and components.
  • Perform testing and validation of fuel systems to meet regulatory standards and customer requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and support in the resolution of fuel system issues during the design, development, testing, and production phases.
  • Conduct research to identify and implement new technologies, materials, and processes that improve fuel system efficiency, reduce emissions, and enhance performance.
  • Provide technical support for the installation and commissioning of fuel systems, ensuring proper functionality and performance.
  • Participate in design reviews, providing technical feedback and recommendations for system improvements.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree in engineering with experience in fuel system design or an equivalent combination of technical education and aerospace experience.
  • Experience with aerospace vehicle fluid systems (rockets or aircraft) and experience as a primary engineer.
  • Experience in fluid system development (design, build, integration, test, and certification).
  • Proficiency with fluid systems analysis, specific to aviation fuels or rocket propellants.
  • Experience developing system level requirements from formal and informal sources.
  • Experience with the full life cycle of aircraft system development including design, integration, and test.
  • Excellent communication skills — able to partner internally and research and interact with potential suppliers.

What Sets You Apart

  • Hands-on experience with at least one aircraft program, guiding it from initial concept all the way through flight and certification, or an equivalent experience that demonstrates your ability to take projects from idea to reality.
  • Depth in preliminary layout and configuration of fuel systems for military or commercial aircraft, with the ability to influence system architecture at the earliest, most impactful stages of design.
  • Experience in flight testing of manned experimental aircraft, to iterate rapidly and operate in fast-paced, high-stakes environments.
  • Technical knowledge in the design, integration, or validation of fuel inerting systems, reflecting understanding of safety-critical subsystems and regulatory compliance
  • Working knowledge of aircraft fuel system certification processes under Part 23 or Part 25, with a clear understanding of how to navigate regulatory frameworks and ensure airworthiness through every development phase.
