Summary
Life Safety Bureau Division Coordinator is a very responsible administrative position that involves the daily operations and functions of the five areas of on-going responsibility and need. These include code enforcement, preincident planning, public education, fire & explosive investigations and emergency scene operations.
Supervision Received
The work is performed under the general direction of the Support Services Bureau Director.
Supervision Exercised
Supervision is exercised over paid and/or volunteer personnel assigned to assist in the Life Safety Bureau. This person may at times be the incident commander at an incident scene.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Conducts commercial occupancy fire inspections
- Assists with inspection testing on fire suppression sprinkler systems and alarms
- Assists with inspection testing on commercial cooking hood extinguishment systems
- Conducts annual target hazard fire inspections
- Develops an inspection schedule
- Directs the delivery of the Survival Kids program
- Teaches Survival Kids programs as needed
- Teaches public education classes
- Coordinates community education events with Recruitment and Retention
- Provides fire safety training to employees of commercial occupancies within our jurisdiction
- Gathers needed pre-incident planning information during scheduled fire inspections
- Develops pre-incident plans on commercial properties identified by the Bureau Director of Operations and the Bureau Director of Support Services
- Presents pre-incident plans to the Command Staff and ultimately the Executive Staff for approval
- Presents pre-incident plans and conducts walk throughs with the first due stations in that area in coordination with the Training Bureau
- Maintains and updates pre-incident plans in the electronic format established through the fire district
- Provides input in all phases of pre-incident plan development
- Performs fire investigations and submits reports of findings and recommendations to the Support Services Bureau Director
- Performs firefighting activities, rescue activities, hazardous material response activities and emergency medical care activities at incident scenes
- Performs apparatus driver/operator duties
- Performs incident management duties up to and including Incident Commander
- Emergency scene operations can occur at any time, day or night, on any day, including weekends.
- Performs other administrative level duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
- A minimum of five (5) years of fire service experience
- Significant attendance and/or advanced coursework in the following areas: fire service, emergency medical services, emergency preparedness, inspections, plan review and fire investigations
- Missouri and/or IFSAC/Pro Board certified at the Firefighter I and II level or equivalent
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
- Must become Fire Inspector I & II certified within one year through the International Code Council (ICC)
- Must become Missouri State Fire Investigator certified within two years
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Missouri state EMT-B license and must maintain such license throughout employment
- Must complete, and maintain through employment, Missouri and/or IFSAC/Pro Board certified Fire Instructor 1 within one year
- Must complete a certified plans review course through the National Fire Academy or International Code Council

Special Qualifications
- Must possess a valid Missouri Driver’s License at the date of hire and must maintain such license throughout their employment
- Must pass a Fire District background check and a State of Missouri Caregiver Background Screening
- Incident Management Systems 100, 200, 700 and 800
- Must be insurable by the Fire District’s insurance carrier
SALARY RANGE
Salary commensurate based on experience
