Summary
The Training Division Specialist is a responsible position that involves the delivery of educational lesson plans, coordinating the delivery of training sessions, and supervising assisting instructors, in a specific division of an assigned Bureau, while positively representing the department. The Training Division Specialist is an operational position within the organization.
Supervision Received
The work is performed under the general direction of the Training Bureau Director.
Supervision Exercised
Supervision is exercised over paid and/or volunteer personnel assigned to assist with Fire District training and other activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Training
Serves as a team member in evaluating and resolving training/operational problems.
Coordinates changes to the training schedules to enhance field operations and EMS care delivery.
Serves as a team member in the selection and development of curriculum to meet the needs of the Fire District.
Delivers training programs in Fire, EMS, Rescue, and Hazardous Materials response to Fire District members and members of the public. Such training can occur on any day of the week, including weekends, during the day, or in the evening.
Stays abreast of new technologies, techniques, and trends as they relate to Fire, Rescue, Hazardous Materials, and EMS training and safety.
Performs limited repair and maintenance work on fire training equipment.
Operates heavy equipment as needed at the Training Center.
- Health and Wellness
Serves as a team member in developing and delivering the Health and Wellness program to meet the needs of the Fire District.
· Administration
Creates weekly, monthly, and annual calendars and reports, including training calendars, instructor schedules, training activity reports, training records, and personnel activity reports.
Conducts inventory on assigned items.
· Emergency Scene Operations
Performs firefighting activities, rescue activities, hazardous material response activities, and emergency medical care activities at incident scenes.
Performs apparatus driver/operator duties.
Performs incident management duties up to and including Incident Commander.
Emergency scene operations can occur at any time, day or night, on any day, including weekends.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
· Basic mathematical functions related to hydraulic calculations.

· Federal, state, and local laws and ordinances that apply to the fire service.

· Understanding and applying mechanical diagrams and concepts.
· Performing a wide variety of firefighting, rescue, hazmat, emergency medical, training, and administrative duties.
· Supervising the effective use of fire equipment and apparatus.
· Performing physical and strenuous work requires physical strength, coordination, endurance, and flexibility.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
· High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required
· Significant attendance and/or coursework in varied areas of the fire service, emergency medical services, rescue, hazardous materials and emergency preparedness
· A minimum of three (3) years total of EMS experience is preferred.
· A minimum of three (3) years total fire service experience is preferred.
· Significant experience and demonstrated successful performance in the delivery of continuing education programs for fire and EMS.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
- Must possess a valid Missouri Driver’s License at the date of hire and must maintain such license throughout their employment.
· A valid Missouri EMT License is required and must maintain such certification throughout employment; paramedic license with ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS provider certification is preferred.
· Must possess an IFSAC or PRO BOARD Firefighter I and II certification or equivalent.
· Must possess or attain within 1 year of their date of hire an IFSAC or PRO BOARD Fire Service Instructor I certification (or equivalent) and must maintain such certification throughout their employment.
· Must possess or attain an AHA BLS Instructor certification within 1 year of their date of hire and must maintain such certification throughout their employment.
· Must possess or attain an IFSAC or PRO BOARD, Incident Safety Officer certification within 2 years of their hire date.

Special Qualifications
· Incident Management Systems 100, 200, 700 and 800.
· Must reside within the exterior geographic borders of the Boone County Fire Protection District.
· Must pass a Fire District background check and a State of Missouri Caregiver Background Screening.
· Must be insurable by the Fire District’s insurance carrier.
