Position Summary: Provides Hyberbaric Oxygen Therapy to all referred patients. Performs specifically assigned wound care activities within the State of Iowa defined "Scope of Practice"; works collaboratively with all other disciplines on unit. Uses the Nursing Process to plan, implement, direct, and evaluate patient care to achieve optimal patient outcomes; works collaboratively with all other disciplines on unit. The Hyperbaric Technician/Wound Care Nurse will understand the basic principles of hyperbaric medicine and wound management, create a consistent and reasonable expectation of skill level.
Education/Qualifications Required: Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program. RN or LPN License in the State of Iowa.
Essential Functions: Hyperbaric chambers may only be operated by a hyperbaric technician. The hyperbaric technician who has been educated in hyperbarics must complete a minimum of 1 daily start-up, 1 daily shutdown, and 1 weekly check per quarter. A minimum of 3 HBO treatments per quarter to maintain competent. HBO treatment is defined as delivery of one day's treatment to a single patient.
- The Hyperbaric Technician is responsible for preparation for all patients referred for treatment.
- Documents all care provided accurately and completely according to hospital and department policy
- Provides patient/family education
- Provides hyperbaric chamber operations and maintenance as required
- Maintains educational competencies as required
- Adhere to patient safety and infection control procedures
- Collaborates with providers in developing plans of care
- Participates in department's performance improvement plan and assists in collecting data used for quality assurance & education
HBO Tech/Wound care nurse will review and understand the clinical pathways for common wound care and become competent in advanced wound treatment.
- Contribute to interdisciplinary plan of care using assessment data
- Recognize change in patient's condition and intervene appropriately
- Prioritize nursing actions, reflecting patient needs, acuity, and desired outcomes
- Demonstrate competency in core and wound care specific clinical skills
- All patient treatment notes will be entered into the EMR system by the wound care nurse
- Provides education to patient and family
General Considerations:
All new hire hyperbaric technicians are expected to complete the required 40 hour approved hyperbaric introductory course and pass the exam. After completion of the course the hyperbaric technician with have hands-on training in the HBO suite and 5 supervised/observed dives with proctor.
Wound care nurse will demonstrate competency in core & unit specific clinical skills like compression therapy, negative pressure dressings, Total Contact Casting , and Ankle/Brachial Index measurements.
Salary : $30 - $42
