What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified RN Anesthetist position at Boone Memorial Hospital Inc?
The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) is a member of the Boone Memorial Hospital (BMH) CRNA team, which provides full-service anesthesia care for various levels of acuity and types of patients. The CRNA must have an unrestricted practice and enjoy excellent rapport with BMH surgeons, nurses, and ancillary staff.

The staff CRNA is expected to perform the following essential functions:
Clinical Functions
The following list of anesthesia related services should be reviewed at least every two years and changes made as required. More clinical responsibilities may be added as additional education and experience is obtained by the individual practitioner.
- Pre-anesthesia assessment
- Regional Anesthesia and Analgesia Techniques
- Requesting laboratory/diagnostic studies
- Pre-anesthetic medication
- Administering general anesthesia and adjuvant drugs

Regional anesthesia techniques:
- Subarachnoid
- Epidural
- Local infiltration
- Topical
- Other such techniques within the CRNAs education, experience, and skill level as assigned by the Chief Nursing Officer
- Sedation techniques
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation management
- Invasive and noninvasive monitoring
- Airway management techniques
- Mechanical ventilation/oxygen therapy
- Fluid, electrolyte, acid-base management
- Blood, blood products, plasma expanders
- Peripheral intravenous/arterial catheter placement
- Acute and chronic pain therapy
- Post anesthesia discharge
Required Skills, Qualifications, and Competencies
- Must demonstrate current competency in the clinical privileges extended.
- Proficient in the operation of anesthesia equipment.
- Current knowledge in anesthesia practice.
- Must exhibit basic knowledge of safety in a health care facility.
- Knowledge and practice of universal precautions in patient contact is required.

Required education and experience
- Must be a registered nurse with current license to practice and official recognition/certification as a CRNA in the State of West Virginia.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) for Healthcare Providers or recognized equivalent
- At least 2 years of experience practicing as a CRNA.
Preferred education and experience
- Doctor of Nursing Practice - Nurse Anesthesia or equivalent doctoral degree.
- 5 years of experience practicing as CRNA.
