Job Responsibilities:
- Professionally manage any and all phone calls.
- Maintain patients medical record with current phone number and mailing address upon each registration.
- Scanning, faxing as required.
- Assist with Patient referrals when needed.
- Coding patient visits with appropriate billing codes on patient accounts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
OBJECTIVES:
- To accurately assign ICD-10 and CPT codes for all patient records. Work with the Medical Staff and hospital billing personnel to assure prompt and accurate assignment of all applicable diagnoses codes within all coding guidelines.
- To assist in keeping all appointment slots full to ensure adequate daily patient/ physician ratio.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
- Must have complete understanding of medical terminology.
- Must possess knowledge of current coding rules and regulations of all payers. Must possess full knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines applicable to hospital reimbursement.
- Previous office experience a must.
Requirements:
- Maintain a Professional appearance while on the job either business casual or uniforms as required per department guidelines.
- Ability to displace good customer service, people skills and team player in a busy office setting.
- Must be able to spell and alphabetize accurately.
- Have good computer skills, ability to learn new software programs when required
- Must be able to maneuver through the hospital/clinic charts to access appropriate information to assure proper coding.
- Ability to communicate effectively and clearly both in writing and orally.
Office Guidelines & Responsibilities:
- Manages and maintains clean working environment.
- Greets and directs all visitors, including vendors, clients, job candidates and customers with friendly and professional courtesy.
- Ensures completion of paperwork as directed.
- Manages efficient patient flow to and from the patient rooms.
- Manages telephone and distributes messages to appropriate parties, including doctors and other staff members appropriately and accurately.
- Maintains patient confidentiality. - HIPAA compliant at all times.
- Handles special administrative projects as well as overflow work from department as directed.
- Performs general office duties as directed.
- Assist other administrative staff with overflow work, including word processing, data entry, spreadsheets and internet research tasks.
- Discharges patient in a timely and efficient manner; distributes patient education materials and physician summary at every visit; schedules follow up appointment.
- Operates basic office equipment.
- Sorts and routes incoming mail and other requests efficiently and in a timely manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
Guidelines:
- Appropriate office attire required. Compliant with BMH Uniform Policy.
- Hours: Mon-Fri. (actual times may vary according to patient schedule)
- Notify supervisor promptly if absence or tardiness becomes necessary (unapproved absences will not be excused and will be kept in personal record).
- Performance will be evaluated at the end of 90 days and then annually. May be performed more frequently at the discretion of the supervisor.
- Use of personal cell phones prohibited during work hours (permitted during breaks & lunch only)
- Obscenities, gestures, or inappropriate behavior strictly prohibited.
- All knowledge of HIPPA rules and regulations will be strictly enforced.
Physical Demands
Ability to perform various motor skills such as; standing or sitting for long periods of time, walking, lifting (up to 25 pounds) using proper lifting techniques, stair climbing, reaching, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, squatting, grasping and arm-hand coordination on a continuous basis.
