Job Title: Upholsterer

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Upholsterer to join our team at our Metairie, LA workroom location. In this role, you will be responsible for upholstering various furniture pieces including chairs, sofas, restaurant booths/banquettes, and other custom pieces. The ideal candidate will have experience working with a variety of fabrics and materials and will be able to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare Furniture: Remove existing upholstery material and inspect the piece for any necessary repairs, such as broken springs, webbing, or additional repairs needed. Communicate the repairs needed to the manager.
• Re-use or Add Padding: Cut and add new foam, add addition poly-fil, down, cotton, or ¼” foam to the frame and cushioning.
• Re-cover furniture: Help cut new material to the pattern determined, label and organize pieces for seamstress, staple fabric or material to cover the piece.
• Install Trim: Attach trim using glue, nails, or staples.
• Estimate Materials and Time: Assist the manager in determining how much time and material will be needed for specific projects.
• Inventory Management: Regularly check upholstery material stock and recommend necessary supplies or equipment to maintain an efficient workroom.
• Tool Maintenance: Ensure upholstery tools are kept in good condition and organized.
• Workroom Assistance: Provide support in other areas of the workroom as needed.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in upholstery or furniture manufacturing is preferred.
• Strong time management skills and a professional attitude in the workplace
• Keen attention to detail.
• Ability to stand, walk and move for extended periods (up to eight hours a day).
• Physical ability to lift, carry and move furniture pieces up to 80lbs without assistance and heavier items 80lbs or more with mechanical or other assistance

Skills Needed

• Proficiency with a range of hand and power tools.
• Expertise in upholstery materials and techniques.
• Ability to take accurate measurements.
• Ability to work with colors and pattern matching.
• Physical strength and stamina for standing while performing work and lifting and handling heavy furniture.

Work Environment:

• Work is performed in a workroom setting.
• Exposure to dust, fumes, and various materials may occur.

Workroom Location: 3044 Galleria Dr. Ste B, Metairie, LA 70001

Weekly Hours Expectation: 40 Hours. 8 AM – 4:30 PM with a 30 minute lunch break. Monday Through Friday.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
