Standard Duties:
- All employees are responsible for knowing, understanding, and complying with the safety policies and procedures.
- Makes any adjustments necessary to maintain quality parts within control limits for SPC.
- Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
- Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
- Aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
- Perform minor machine maintenance, such as oiling or cleaning machines, dies, or work pieces, or adding coolant to machine reservoirs.
- Set up and operate various CNC machines (two to six axis machinery)
- Set up and adjust fixtures, cutting tools, and make tooling offsets on machines.
- Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
- Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
- Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
- Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly as required by department.
- Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly.
- Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and tests operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
- Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch of part or product to be fabricated.
- Confers with maintenance, engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining problems.
- Employees are expected to support training efforts as needed by machining departments.
- Inspects tooling for damage or wear after production.
- Completes minor tool optimization projects.
- Maintain complete and accurate records on tooling as required.
- Uses precision measuring instruments to perform first piece and in-process inspections for conformance to blueprint specifications, in accordance with inspection plans.
- Produce complex machined parts by setting up and operating a CNC Mill and/or CNC Lathe Read and understand CNC programs. Inspect machined parts.

Responsible for quick turnaround support and potential rework when required Collaborate and advise engineering team on design for manufacturability.
Write instruction sheets and tool lists to guides set-up and operation of the machining centers. - Aid in the training of production operators on the use of new CNC machine control and tools Computer literate.
- Perform first piece runs and recommend changes to programs on multi-axis machine tools quickly and proficiently.
- Develop, train and provide technical support to CNC Operators.
- Must possess strong experience with feeds and speeds for complex materials Ability to use inspection tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges) as needed Ability to hold exceptionally tight tolerances.
- Responsible for complete, accurate and compliant documentation
- Comfortable working in an IATF/ISO environment and embrace/apply continuous improvement. Makes recommendations to engineers for potential enhancements.
- Identify normal vs. abnormal condition and take immediate appropriate action, escalate concerns as appropriate.
- Ability to read and understand complex mechanical drawings or models and interpret drawings per Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance (Mastercam/Solidworks or PDF s)
- Monitor pitch charts to ensure process stays with in control limits.
- Initiate SPC improvement projects to reduce process variability and improve part quality.
- Conduct/lead tooling and machine maintenance in down time periods.
- Pursue continuous improvement efforts such as set up time reduction initiatives
- Document/log any unplanned process or tooling changes.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with team members, customers, support groups, and management.
- Employees are expected to support machining departments and other areas of the facility as necessary to support production needs such as running equipment.
- Develop a comprehensive knowledge of the Machining Department and equipment to effectively assist the team in the achievement of daily goals, (CPU’s), and foster a continuous improvement culture.
- Monitor change over and/or line set up efficiency. Work with operators to assist trouble-shooting activities for set-up, tool and equipment adjustments.
- Examine materials to ensure they conform to control and specification limits.
- Efficiently reduce scrap and waste by continuously monitoring and improving processes.
- Read and understand, internal, and execute procedures and policies
- Act in accordance to BorgWarner’s Beliefs.
- Support other departments as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Safety, Health and Physical Requirements:
- Stand for long periods of time.
- Lifting shoulder high up to 35 lbs. repetitively.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Repetitive motion activities including but not limited to loading machines, unloading machines, standing, lifting, loading/unloading carts.

Education: High School diploma/GED or basic skills assessment required.
Experience:
- 12 months of related CNC operator experience preferred.
- Experience in fast paced industrial lean environment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Basic and advanced math skills: familiarity with ratios, proportions, geometry, and trigonometry is a plus.
- Good communication skills in both verbal and written forms.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints
- Ability to use measuring instruments including but not limited to calipers, height gage, scales, and micrometers.
- Ability to perform Machine Operator 1 and Machine Operator 2 duties.
