CLASSIFICATION: Custodian
GRADE: B 11
RANGE OF PAY: $23.20 per hour
PLACE OF WORK: City Hall, 100 S Second Street
Potential to work at other Borough locations
HOURS OF WORK: General Hours Monday-Friday 7:00AM - 3:00PM
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs a range of cleaning, sweeping, and general light maintenance tasks at the Municipal Building and Police Station, under the guidance of Administrative Services.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Employees in this class perform maintenance necessary to provide clean facilities at the Municipal Building and the Police Station. Many of the tasks performed are of the basic housekeeping nature. General direction is received from the Chief Custodian, who checks the work for quality, timeliness and safety.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative only)
Sweep and mop floors
Dust and polish furniture and equipment
Clean and polish doorknobs and other related items
Empty and clean waste cans, etc.
Clean some window and door glasses
Wipe down walls
Change some light bulbs
Clean, sanitize, and maintain lavatories (replenish sanitary supplies)
Clean window blinds
Sweep sidewalks and entrances, stairs and other areas
Water outside flower boxes
Request needed supplies and materials and maintain custodial supply closet
Perform other duties as assigned or directed
Work involves primarily a variety of simple duties, generally routine in nature requiring some care in performance to effectively maintain desired cleanliness and safety.
This position is designated as a safety-sensitive position.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Good knowledge of maintenance operations; good knowledge of cleaning equipment and tools used in maintenance duties; ability to follow and understand simple oral and written instructions; ability to get along well with the general public and fellow employees; ability to use equipment safely; mental alertness; tact and courtesy; good physical condition. Ability to pass a Police Background Check and a Computer Voice Stress Analyzer Analysis (CVSA).
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Considerable housekeeping experience and completion of a high school course; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the require knowledge, skills and abilities.

- If the position is not filled by an AFSCME Bargaining Unit employee of the Department, AFSCME Bargaining Unit employees of other Departments will be considered;
- If the position is not filled by an AFSCME Bargaining Unit employee, other Borough employees will be considered;
- If a Borough employee does not fill the position, outside persons (including extra part time Borough employees) will be considered in accordance with the Borough's Equal Employment Opportunity Policy and a preference for qualified Borough residents and non-users of tobacco products.
- The AFSCME CBA provides that employees with verbal or written reprimands in the employee's file are eligible to bid on job vacancies; however, an employee with a disciplinary suspension in their personnel file is not eligible
