HOURS OF WORK: Generally 4:00 AM 12:00 PM, Monday-Friday

TYPE OF WORK:
Perform duties necessary to remove garbage and general refuse from residential or commercial areas, and load into automatic trucks for removal.
Work on an assigned route, rotated weekly; proceed onto residential or commercial properties or at curb-side, obtain containers, carry containers to truck and upset containers into truck to remove disposal materials, return containers to customers' property. May be required to work ahead of truck and obtain refuse from customers' property and set together in one specific location close to curb or alley of route traveled by truck. Garbage and refuse materials may consist of cans, paper, rubbish, food and other materials placed for disposition.
Work involves carrying and handling materials, loading and unloading containers, assisting other loaders, working in all types of weather and surface conditions.
May perform duties at commercial locations where large containers are automatically lifted and unloaded by trucks. May assist in maintenance and placement of commercial containers.
Perform duties necessary to remove recyclable items from curbside containers in residential and commercial areas and load onto recycling truck or trailer for delivery to the recycling distribution point.
Work on an assigned route, obtain recycling containers from curbside, carry containers to truck or trailer, upset containers in correct recycling bin of truck or trailer, and then return containers to proper curbside area of property. Separation of recyclables must be checked before placing in bins of truck or trailer, also some hand separation of materials (such as colored glass) will be required.
Work involves carrying and handling recyclable materials, loading and unloading recyclable materials, working in all types of weather and surface conditions. When not working with recyclables, must assist regular sanitation crew.
Perform other related duties as assigned or directed. Detect and report any unusual conditions to proper supervision. Follow prescribed safety regulations.
Must be available to work in all Public Works Departments upon request. Must have and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license, 3 years clean driving history, and be insurable in the independent opinion of the Borough's motor vehicle insurance underwriter, in order to be eligible for this position and obtain a Commercial Motor Vehicle Operator's License, Class B with Air Brakes, prior to the end of the probationary period.
This position is designated as a safety-sensitive position.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Must be in good physical condition due to extensive walking and lifting of heavy containers;
- Must have and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operators license, 3 year clean driving history, and be insurable in the independent opinion of the Boroughs motor vehicle insurance underwriter, in order to be eligible for this position and obtain a Commercial Motor Vehicle Operators License, Class B with Air Brakes, prior to the end of the probationary period;
- Must not have any disciplinary action (written reprimand or suspension) in their file during the preceding two years;
- Must reside within the 45-driving mile residency radius, as primary residence, for duration of employment;
- Must be able to read, write, and follow instructions or directions.

- AFSCME Bargaining Unit employees working in the Department will be considered first;
