Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated, motivated, and detail-oriented individual to join our team. The Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for performing code enforcement, rental inspections and zoning services for The Borough of Jefferson Hills on a full-time basis. The function of this role is to incorporate preventing, investigating, identifying, and enforcing violations for property maintenance, zoning and building code through a local ordinance. The ideal candidate will pride themselves on providing great customer service and enjoy problem solving. They should have good written and verbal communication skills, and a solid understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, and be willing to learn additional software programs as necessary. Experience in code enforcement, zoning, floodplain management/enforcement, local government, planning, home inspections or residential construction is a plus, but we will train the right person.
Responsibilities
- Conduct inspections of properties to ensure compliance with Borough Ordinances.
- Prepare detailed reports documenting findings from inspections and investigations.
- Collaborate with other regulatory agencies to ensure adherence to all local, state and federal guidelines.
- Respond to complaints from the public regarding potential code violations and take appropriate action.
- Provide guidance and education to property owners on compliance requirements and best practices.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, violations, and enforcement actions taken.
- Participate in regulatory reporting activities as required by state and local government entities.
- Stay updated on changes in laws, regulations, and best practices related to code enforcement.
- Participate in continuing education training and obtain additional certifications for advancement.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma and a willingness to obtain additional certifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with diverse populations; a solid understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite, and the ability to quickly grasp other software programs as necessary.
- Some previous experience and/or education in construction, construction management, local government, planning, criminal justice or similar may also align with this role.
- The ability to obtain additional certifications within a designated timeframe.
- Experience with report writing and documentation processes is essential.
- Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with the Borough's third-party commercial inspection agency and our clients.
- Demonstrated skills in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail for identifying compliance issues.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently with limited supervision as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Current, valid driver's license and ability to travel to client sites.
- Ability to obtain Act 151, Act 134 and Act 114 clearances as required for residential inspections.
- ICC/PA UCC certifications OR a background in construction with the intent to pursue certifications in an allotted timeframe once hired (Commercial certifications will be preferred over residential).
- Ability to effectively interpret and apply complex regulations, resolve conflicts, and negotiate compliance solutions.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
