The Manhattan Educational Opportunity Center (Manhattan EOC) was established in 1966 by the State University of New York (SUNY) as the Urban Center in Manhattan, as a result of an act of the New York State Legislature. The Manhattan EOC has been funded by the State University of New York University Center for Academic and Workforce Development (SUNY UCAWD) and hosted by Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) of the City University of New York during its entire history. Educational Opportunity Centers provide academic instruction, vocational training, and support services to educationally and economically disadvantaged adults.

The Student Affairs Director is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the Student Affairs Department at the Manhattan EOC. This position reports to the Executive Director of the Manhattan EOC and is responsible for the following:

Compensation And Benefits
For appointments expected to start on or before 8/31/2025:
Salary range is $100,329 - $119,995, Salary commensurate with education and experience.
CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted by 6.09% with additional increases of 3.25% effective 9/1/2025 and 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.

Responsibilities
The Student Affairs Director is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the Student Affairs Department at the Manhattan EOC. This position reports to the Executive Director of the Manhattan EOC and is responsible for the following:
- Supervision of the staff and services provided by Academic Advisement and Counseling, Career and Employment Advisement, Admissions, and Student Records.
- Direction and management of admissions processes, case conferencing for students, retention efforts, student engagement activities, employment and college readiness activities, leadership and soft-skills development activities for students.
- Oversight of data tracking and reporting for student affairs activities and services.
- Supervise and support Student Affairs staff usage of Banner and Argos.
- Coordinate student services with relevant colleagues at the Manhattan EOC, SUNY UCAWD, and BMCC as appropriate.
- Partner with Center Directors on center-wide initiatives, programs, and services to Manhattan EOC students and the community.
- Support SUNY UCAWD and externally funded projects and services.
Qualifications
MINIMUM
- Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience required.
- Master’s Degree in adult education, educational leadership, administration, higher education, social work or similar highly preferred.
- A minimum of three years of supervisory experience is highly preferred; this supervisory experience is preferably of staff that support adult learners (as a component of the total eight (8) years of experience that’s required).
- Adept at planning and supervising engaging events, workshops, and services for adult learners.
- Experience implementing student-focused best practices and procedures for an educational institution, workforce development organization or similar.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and technical skills.
- Experience using an electronic student system of record to track performance measures and staff efforts.
Oversees the planning, program development, and administration of student-related programs for an Educational Opportunity Center (EOC).
- Develops plans for, and leads a variety of student programs and services, such as recruitment, admissions, retention, student activities, job placement, and community outreach
- Evaluates the effectiveness of the portfolio of student services in supporting EOC goals; oversees data collection, tracking, and reporting systems
- Partners with appropriate EOC units to institute enrollment and retention plans which provide services to students and applicants in an efficient and effective manner
- Hires, supervises, and evaluates staff; actively develops opportunities for staff development and growth
- Oversees departmental budget(s) and advises on allocation of funds
- Serves as a member of the senior leadership team of the EOC, both internally and in outside forums
- Performs related duties as assigned.
