JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Operates vehicles and equipment including, but not limited to, dump trucks, snow and ice control equipment, backhoes, front-end loaders, graders, street sweepers, solid waste collection vehicles, rollers, utility trucks, compressors, air hammers, compactors, chain saws, brush chippers, tractors, mowers, etc., as required or assigned according to individual abilities.
2. Services and maintains assigned equipment as required and reports all other needed maintenance or repairs to supervisor.
3. Performs semiskilled work in support of the Public Works Department. Duties are varied and diversified, involving operation of vehicles and equipment, use of hand tools, small power tools and other manual labor as required or assigned.
4. When assigned as crew leader, directs and works with the crew as to procedures, safety and equipment use, in support of the crew effort to complete the assigned task.
5. Adheres to establish safety program by using proper safety equipment, following all rules and regulations, attending training sessions and making recommendations for improvements or changes as need becomes apparent.
6. Assist in public relations by effectively relating to the pubic and their concerns and, when necessary, referring to supervisor.
7. Performs other duties and tasks as required or assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Ability to operate a dump truck.
2. Ability to operate other vehicles and equipment or demonstrated potential and ability to learn.
3. Ability to use power and hand tools and physically fit to do manual labor activities associated with public works tasks.
4. Ability to service and maintain assigned equipment as required.
5. Ability to follow instructions, ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
6. Ability to maintain harmonious and effective work relationships with other employees.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. One year experience in vehicle and equipment operation and maintenance particularly as it relates to municipal public works or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
2. Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license. A commercial driver's license (CDL) will be required for operation of any vehicle rated for such license.

Pay: From $17.00 per hour
