What are the responsibilities and job description for the Police Officer position at Borough of Portland?
You MUST be Act 120 certified and meet all requirements, including being able to pass all required background checks.
The Borough of Portland is a small town in the Slate Belt. Our goal is to provide our residents with a safe environment to live and raise their families, our businesses with the opportunity to prosper and tourists the chance to enjoy our quaint town along the Delaware River.
We are accepting applications for up to 3 positions of Part Time Police Officer.
All applicants must:
- be a U.S. citizen
- be at least 21 years of age
- possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- All applicants must be PA Act 120 certified on date of hire
- pass all required background checks
- be physically capable of performing the essential functions and tasks of a police officer
All applicants must also:
- possess their own firearm (preferably 40 caliber) and gear.
Responsibilities:
- Enforcing local, state, and federal laws
- Engaging with the community
- Building positive relationships with the youth
- Patrolling assigned geographic zones and responding to calls
- Apprehending and transporting suspects
- Interviewing victims, witnesses, and suspects
- Gathering and logging evidence
- Writing citations, delivering warrants, and testifying in court
- Preparing and providing accurate reports documenting incidents and activities
- Responding to emergency and non-emergency situations
- Preventing and investigating illegal activities, domestic disturbances, accidents, ordinance violations, etc.
Portland is situated right next to Rt 80 and New Jersey so some days will be patrolling our residential roads and other days will be on foot interacting with the community both young and old, including at community events.
